Font Packages

Ok, just started up with a new company (well companies actually... I'm responsible for at least 4 separate companies all with what needs to be unique identities).

I'm now starting basically from scratch and need to fill my font folder with a good mix of fonts that aren't native to the new Mac OSX.

Not looking for a free site, but I'm hoping someone has a suggestion of any good packages of fonts as the company is willing to spend money, but I'd rather not piece together purchasing 1 font here and 1 font there.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I guess you're in luck, friend. I happen to have a giant folder of fonts, however I don't know if they're compatible with Macs, but I can't see why not.

You could PM me with an email address and I could email you a few if you're up for a test run?

Hey Stiney...

If you looking for Commercial Fonts without pirating them, check out Font Folio from Adobe...

Adobe Fonts

more than 2200 fonts... I can give you a list of whats included if you can't find it on Adobe

Mike.

Mike,

Definitely looking at going the commercial route. I looked into Font Folio, and while my company is willing to spend some money, handing them a $5000 package might be difficult.

Do you happen to know what you need in order to qualify for the upgrade version? Didn't see anything on Adobe's site.

dewdman - thanks for the offer. I think starting out a new job by pirating fonts is probably a bad idea though. :-(

I didn't know that'd be considered pirating, brotha. These are fonts I've come accross throughout my travels on the net. I didn't think it would be any different from posting layer styles, brushes and the like as we do here.

Honestly, I'm not into illegal acts, man. But if that's considered pirating, thanks for the heads up.

No problem, wasn't accusing you or anything. Just a heads up though. For the most part everything you find in your travels on the net have some sort of copyright to them (fonts, brushes, photos etc.).

Many allow you to use them for personal use, some require you to give credit to the creator of the item, but most require some sort of payment if you are going to use them for any business related uses.

Keep this in mind if you are ever doing anything as freelance or as a full time design gig.

In truth, it's pretty unlikely unless you are doing something on a very large national scale for it to get back to the original creator, but if it ever did, they have every right to turn around and sue the designer or the company that is using the end product.

Just a heads up as I was saying. It's always good to hear about these things early so you aren't caught by surprise.

Bryan

By the way it's always a good idea to read the copyright information on the site you get items from or that might be downloaded with the resources you aquire.

Well, all of my fonts are freeware and came with a read-me file mentioning that if I were to redistribute them, that the read-me file must accompany the font file, and no changes were to be made to the font or read-me file. Yes, not all fonts have this read-me file, but most do have something indicating who is the original creator.

Some of my fonts came from dafont.com, and came with that same type of read-me file I mentioned above.

Here's a statement from the site about the fonts available for download:

"The fonts presented on this website are their authors' property, and are either freeware, shareware, demo versions or public domain. The licence mentioned above the download button is just an indication. Please look at the readme-files in the zips or check the indicated author's website for details, and contact him if in doubt. If no author/licence is indicated that's because we don't have information, that doesn't mean it's free."

Thanks again for the heads up though, it's appreciated.

This is a free site that you might find worthwhile

I appreciate that you aren't looking for a free site, but this one has some really nice quality decorated capitals and some very pretty fonts that you can use. If you have something like FrontPage or get a demo copy of Microsoft Expression Web you can import the complete site and open it at your leisure. As far as I can tell, you are free to use them even for commercial purposes.
