Thumbs up FastStone Image Viewer 3.0

Found this little nifty program that's free and makes thumbnail pictures. Quick and easy. Has a cool looking gel interface to it. But what I liked the most about it was the "Masks" when you go to create the thumbnails. Real cool and neato.. ;o) .. I had no clue where to place this topic.

Hi Rheanna

I see you've posted some links to some helpful programs... +rep for that!

I just caution you (and others) that more often than not these so called "free" programs are riddled with spyware or adware unless you buy the "Full Version" or they insist that you upgrade after xx days.

Make sure you trust the programs you are posting so others don't endanger their computers with your recommendations.

And thanks for sharing your finds with us!

Mike.

Hey Ton

I use XNView quite often as well, or at least I used to..

I am finding IrfanView much more useful for batch jobs and quick viewing large numbers of photos...

IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide

Check it out (if you havn't already).

Thanks Mike,

I will have a look at it. I must say I use IrfanView not so much but if I do for the same reason you do. Irfanview was the first program with a wide variety of batch conversion possibilities. And it does screencapture, can make a quick slideshow, can make a transparent gif. I like it so much because it fulfils a lot of my needs in ONE program. I always miss one or an other in other viewers and you are right for free is not always for free. I will have a look. Thanks!

Ton

Never tried that *Not.. going to try it now.. Looking for something does like a quick batch to make thumbnail images rather then doing it one by one. lol ;o) I stink at this.

Why not use the batch processing function in Photoshop?

Batch Processing in Adobe Photoshop

(The above tutorial is for Macs, but the principle is the same for Windows)

Indeed, Photoshop does have a poweful batch processing facility... especially combined with the scripting engine...

But for quick and easy renaming, thumbnailing, or resizing IrfanView is the fastest and simplest I've found... so far...

XNview looks good, batch works mainly with scripts. Can't judge overall. I will stick to Irfanview because till now I don't miss anything.
I don't use it but can be very handy: Using the file/browse XNview shows in the corner of the thumbnails if there is an exif available of that picture.

Irfanview 4.0 has been released, it's free and to me the most versatile program for batch jobs for images
