Online File Storage

I don't know how many of you have a need for online storage, but I use it quite often. Sometimes I store files online that I don't want to lose (in case of fire, theft, or computer death) but mostly I use it to make certain files available to me from anywhere...

After a lot of searching, I found a really good service and they even offer a 1GB account for FREE... and there is a downloadable application that allows you to use the online space just like a folder on your actual computer (drag and drop etc.)

Only downfall is transfer times are restricted by your upload speed.

Anyways, if you have a need or just wanna try it out, check out:

Omnidrive: Free Online Storage, Sharing and Publishing Platform for Desktop and Web - Another week, another release

If you signup, the 1GB account is free.

Make sure to login to your new account through the Web Application first and download the Desktop Applet from there... the version that is available on the main page of the site is an older version of the software with a couple of bugs.

Let me know if this helps you out!

Mike.

P.S. I know this might sound like a SPAM ad or something, but I really find it useful and it's free...

I agree with you on the usefull part

And it would be spam, in my opinion, if you would post this message more times and post it like an ad

"Buy this wonderfull product, it will help you with everything!!"

And next to that its REALY handy.....wait I've already said that, didn't I.

The upload is a little slow but it's very useful.
Thank you for sharing

The upload is most likely restricted by your connection speed...

I have a relatively fast 800Kbs Upload speed and find that uploading files to my drive space is about the same as my FTP transfer rate.

Do you know what your Upload speed is?

Mike.

I don't know exactly what's my upload speed, but tomorrow i will check it out.
The use is very friendly and simple.

Do you know if we can give access to someone else? If it's possible to do that we could share files between friends.

I'm wondering if we make another account with a diferent email we can get another GB free. Did you think about that?

Thanks Mike

Yes, another email address would grant you an additional 1GB but you would also need a different username....

Uhh, wow. Since absolutely deplore that site (Omnidrive was notorious, back in its infancy, for file deletions) here are a few file storage sites I use, all free:

MediaMax - 25 Gb storage for free; allows streaming video and music; MediaMax software also provides backups, syncs, and uploading from a Windows desktop. Claims to be able to upload any file size, but I have failed with anything more than a 600 mb file. I use this for backups. Also provides hosted files with limited bandwidth, for file sharing.

Divshare - Unlimited uploads, downloads, bandwidth, and file life. 300 MB max file. Galleries, file privacy, and even cobranding. I use this when I need to share a certain file.

MediaFire - About the same as Divshare... a little fancier. Also provides great file sharing. 100 Mb max file.
