Question Something strange with the tutorials?

Hey, I stumbled upon this site and I really like it but it tell me often to do something like this for custom shapes:

Quote:
With your shape still selected with the marquee tool, pick Select > Transform Selection from the main menu and then, holding down the CTRL+SHIFT keys on your keyboard, resize your selection to something like 75% of its original width, and 58% of its original height. Press DELETE on your keyboard and admire your nice chain link shape. Name the layer something inspiring like link1.
I am guessing the "Select > Transform" is the "select" button at the top of photoshop... right? well I don't have a "transform" option in my "select" drop down box. All I have is these:

"ALL"
"DESELECT"
"RESELECT"
"INVERSE"
"ALL LAYERS"
"DESELECT LAYERS"
"SIMILAR LAYERS"
"FEATHER"
"MODIFY" > BOARDER SMOOTH EXPAND CONTRACT
"GROW"
"SIMILAR"
"SAVE SELECTION"

I don't see a "transform". Am I looking under the wrong section or something? Please help I like these tutorials but... I just can't find what they are talking about. I have photoshop version: Photoshop Elements 5.0

Thanks guys!

Hi Worm,
Transform Selection is one of the Photoshop features that was not included in Photoshop Elements. However, I have found this site: How to uncover undocumented Photoshop Elements features
which claims to offer a patch to restore some of the missing features (including Transform Selection).

I have not tried this patch myself (I have the full version of PS), so this information is offered with no guarantee that it will work. Just thought it might solve your problem.

just try pushing ctrl+t, you'll get the same result.
I think you find the normal "Transform" when you look under EDIT.

Maybe this is not possible in elements, i dunno

Henzen!

Would the transform under EDIT not Change the content of the current layer?

I believe the transform found under SELECT will change only the selection marquee and not the content...

A tool I have found very useful many times.

Although... if Elements lacks the Select Transform feature, you could create a new layer, Edit Transform a shape to be just right and then, with the first layer selected, hold CTRL and click the thumbnail for the new layer. This should create a selection in the original layer that matches the content of the new layer.

You can dispose of the new layer as you wish. You can even hide it and still use CTRL + Thumbnail to make a selection.

Hope this helps someone.

Mike.
