I have recently been introduced to a Giveaway site, it did come from a good source and I have downloaded a couple of software programs from it. I like to pass on good sources so I hope you find it of use.

It sounds almost too good to be true.

This is an excerpt from their "About" Page:

We will pay the software publisher for the Giveaway license, and our visitors will only receive those after downloading a special verification program and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, thus protecting software publishers’ interests and making our initiative beneficial for both clients and publishing companies.

The part about a "Special Verification Program" has me worried. Sounds like a strong case of Mal-ware or Spy-ware or more than likely Ad-Ware to me.

I'd advise lurkers to use at their own risk!

Thats true Mike, so far my scanning has not picked up any mal-ware from it as yet.

Do you have to keep the verification program on your computer after you've downloaded the free software?

I couldn't agree more. Call me a cynic if you like, but I believe that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

No offence, Tony: I appreciate your motives for posting the link, and I wouldn't want to put anyone else off from trying it out, but I don't think I'll be downloading any "special verification program".

(Having said that, the link doesn't even seem to be working in Firefox anyway)

I delete it but ensure that the software is actually free. Todays was really a freebee trial for 30days. So as on all things free read the small print. It easy to get duped into downloading things for 'FREE' without looking at details.

I just finished cleaning up my computer after having downloaded some "free" software; it was actually P2P and allowed access to my computer by others, never a good idea. Be careful!
