Finally Received My CPU *rambling*

On March 2006, I bought a desktop from a computer store.

On last 29th December 2006, it broke down due to power supply. Thank God for warranty card. I sent it back to that computer store.

I just got my CPU today and boy, was I happy and annoyed. It took them a whole month just to replace power supply. Fine, I was patient even thought a month without my desktop. Frustrated but patient.

Anyway so I got my CPU back
  • The beautiful CPU case silver/black is now full with scratches everywhere. I didn't realize it until I went out from the shopping mall.
  • I put password to access my desktop since it contains confidential and important stuff. Was I shocked to realize the technician managed to access my desktop and it no longer asking for password. Was it necessary for him to access my desktop just to replace a power supply? Anyone knows?

So far everything seems okay. But just in case, I scanned the computer with Spybot, Adaware etc.

The end.

Technically it should not have been necessary for him to access your desktop, but if he was a thorough technician he would likely have wanted to make sure that there was proper and adequate power when all of your devices were running.

Also, there should be a burn-in period with a new power supply... the tech may use software to run burn-in and diagnostic tests.

Your password will protect your desktop from passers-by, but it is easily bypassed in safe-mode and your files are still accessible through the command prompt.

Check your "Recent Documents" list to see what was accessed... note that the tech could have cleared the recent doc list if he wanted to cover his tracks.

Mike.

Good post notjustgraphics, not everyone understands how easily files can be opened and viewed when in safe-mode. Nothing is every really "private".

Okay thanks for the tips Mike and Bedlam. I'll do that.

Btw my CPU broke down again today. Twice. Just like before it was repaired.

So just in case, I should burn all important files in CDs.

They opened few of my old video projects in the computer as well as my portfolio, which also includes projects for my clients.

I am concerned, to think the possibility of the technician to copy any of my works for his own.

Hmm, I think the artist and date of creation is always deisplayed......And you know how you made them, the technician don't, does he?

So even if he would say such a thing, and it would be in your way....then you can prove it is yours. And the technician don't

But maybe he was just poking around to see if the CPU works, videos are using big parts of the CPU to play.

You made good points Unleash. I hope so.

I'm also not upset with the amount of scratches on CPU case anymore. What's important right now is the content of the CPU.

Just in case I think I should also buy external disk storage.

Thanks for replying.
