Question about burning Programs to A Disk
So im moving back home, and myself will be there before my computer will obviously. My client needs to start on her websites asap with me. Now I can either take my tower with me on the plane or I can burn the programs I am going to need to a disk and install them on her computer. Now will I run into any problems? Does it need to be burned as a document cd, on a dvd w/ like DVD shrink or something or as a data cd? Will I have problems with installing it on her comp? besides it being to big but as in like serial numbers and stuff? Any help and suggestions Ill take thanks..

Unless you have install discs you're pretty much going to be out of luck.
If you do have install discs, you will likely need serials numbers to activate the software on the other computer...
If you do have discs or install files, you just need to burn them to a DATA Cd or DVD... either one won't matter... as long as the other computer has a compatible drive.
Which programs specifically?
Mike.

Notjustgraphics pretty much covered everything here.
Probably best to burn the programs to DVD as long as the client has a dvd drive due to the larger size. You will need a program like Nero, Roxio, etc. to burn a data dvd. You will need CD keys so have those written down somewhere.
Also, if you use special fonts, brushes, shapes, styles, etc. make sure to copy those on the DVD so you can install them.
And if that doesn't work, you could ship the tower to whereever you're going. Of course this could get pricey.
Good luck

About taking the tower with me I was just going to box it up and take it on the plane with me. But would that ruin anything?
I have Nero, Roxio I think?, and the dvd shrink. I have my install disks for my adobe suite cs and my ftp program but as for my dreamweaver i got that a long time ago somewhere else. and i didnt need to use keys for that. so im not sure what i should do. wait you can use dreamweaver for 30 days free right? but if my client does not what to do that could anyone suggest an alternative?
as for brushes shapes ect... man thats alot! but eh im going to need it so i have to do it. thanks..

The thing you have to be aware of is that with most Windows programs, you can't just copy the application's folder and files from one computer to another, because part of the install procedure usually involves installing and registering a set of program-specific dynamic link libraries (DLLs) in your WINDOWS and/or SYSTEM32 folders. If these DLLs are not present, or not properly registered on the target machine, the application won't work. This is quite separate from the issue of registering programs with keys or serial numbers.

Yes. If i was you i would take my comp with myself. The most best way to avoid any even possible trouble would be to have everything with yourself already.
The stuff with DLLs can drive you mad some times. Trust me, i know.

Taking your tower with you would not harm the tower (unless it was dropped or banged) but I doubt they'll let you take it carry-on, so it will have to go as checked luggage... this could be dicey...
If it were me, i'd slide the hard drive(s) out and pack them in anti-static bags and take them carry on... the rest should be ok in cargo... just check to make sure all the boards are properly seated before you power it back on.
Your situation unfortunately does not have a super simple solution.
Mike.

Tamlin pointed out your biggest problem with dreamweaver i think,
but sometimes there are like register things in the programm map, if you click them twice they register the software on your pc....and the librarys will be installed and stuff. But most of the times such a thing isn't present

Unless it will be a month before you can start work on their website, your client can wait. I can not fathom what the Big Hurry could possibly be. I know from years of clients that they may honestly believe that their website is crucial to their very existence on this planet, but obviously it's not, and there is no reason they can't wait for you to get set up at your home. They've waited this long for a website, what's another few days?
Don't let a client push you to do something drastic or anything you're not comfortable with. It is not worth it. If you pack your computer and take it with you and it becomes damaged in the process, will you client care? Will they take any blame? Will they pay for the repairs? Of course not. You'll be saddled with a broken computer and they'll have to wait even longer.
Clients are petulant children. They've decided they wanted a website and they want it Now! NOW! NOW! But the truth is, they can wait. Tell your client you have some great ideas for their site, you can't wait to get started, but they have to wait.
If for some reason the client won't wait and takes their ball and goes home, then be glad you didn't have to work with them after all - those clients will always become your nightmare and who needs that?

With clients the "ASAP" should allways (ALLWAYS!) be "ASAYACWI"
aka: As Soon As You Are Comfortable With It"

For me, it's ASAICBB:
As Soon As I Can Be Bothered (after I've drunk my coffee, eaten my bacon sandwich, read my email and checked BioRUST).

You could try, but don't forget that trial versions of software often have vital features (like Save) disabled.
Mike: I tried checking BioRUST and eating a bacon sandwich at the same time, but I got brown sauce all over the keyboard. I'm no good at multi-tasking...
