I played WoW when it first came out. I've got a couple of level 60 characters on the Alliance side.
The game itself is good. One of the best MMORPGs out there and if you're into Fantasy games, it's certainly one to play. But the higher you get the more dependant on others you become. If you don't make a lot of friends and join active guilds, you will be reduced to basic items and no real option to upgrade your gear once you're high.
The level cap on the game is a joke. I don't think a game should have a level cap that can be reached. When I reached the level cap on two of my characters there wasn't much to do other than PvP and constantly bug people to group instances.
A new expansion is due out soon, called Burning Crusade, which will add some new races and a bunch of new maps and such. You will also have to pay for this ontop of the monthly subscription.
The downside to most MMORPGs is the amount of time you have to invest in order to progress. This is one of the reasons why I didn't stick around for years playing it lol
If you have very little time and want an MMORPG that allows you to level a character in real time, so you can gain skill levels offline, and actually spend your online time playing - playing...then Eve Online is certainly worth checking out. Eve is a Sci-Fi based MMORPG and it is the largest MMORPG single server game online. There's over 30,000 users on the same server, in comparison to World of Warcraft's 2,000 user limit and over 3,000+ huge maps to explore.
Eve also comes with a 14 day free trial and if you like it, you don't have to buy the game, you can just pay to play.
For those of you into MMORPGs and want a game that doesnt take up all your time - check it out at
EVE Online - a massive multiplayer online roleplaying space game - MMORPG
Here's a trailer of the latest free expansion, which includes all in-game footage...
