We had those too, I'm not sure of the exact branding but it was definitely called Gold Rush, and the bubblegum looked just like this.

NotJustGraphics, they have Tim Horton's here in Maine. Honestly, I'm not a coffee fan, but their donuts aren't as appealing to me as Dunkin Donuts and Crispy Cremes.

I heard they did away with including gum in baseball card packs now...

Hmm...I don't remember those. Maybe it was a regional thing -whereabouts did you grow up? Up north, when I was a kid, we would usually refer to sweets/candy as "spice" for some unknown reason...

Cheshire - someone previously mentioned regional differences in a 2 hour drive away, in the UK you can have a change of accent in 10 miles.

Spice is an excellent name, I don't think we had a nickname for sweets, but I remember it being like a currency with it's own weighting system for swapping.

Back to that gum, it looks like there were several different brands.

Here's another.

But the one I'm thinking of is this one, and the bag was more shiny than hessian. It's the ones on the top row.

To truly understand the Canadian Coffee culture you have to visit one of our towns to see just how many Tim Horton's there are....

I attended a Franchising Seminar one weekend here in Toronto and had the pleasure of speaking with some very dynamic people involved in franchises like McDonalds, Tim Hortons, and Pizza Pizza (Our most popular Pizza Franchise).

The most interesting speaker was the President of Country Style - a once hugely popular coffee and donut store that suffered a major decline through the late 80's and early 90's.

In recent years, Country Style has come back aggresively, and enjoyed excellent growth even amidst Kripsy Kreme's embarassing foray into Canada.

When asked about their approach with competitors like Tim Horton's and Krispy Kremes he had the following to say: (more or less)

"Tim Hortons is as much a part of Canadian Culture as Hockey... We don't believe we can compete against them... but they are in the COFFEE business. Krispy Kreme is in the DONUT business and made the mistake of thinking that Canadians eat donuts. They're getting there butt kicked by Tim Hortons and rightly so. The new Country Style is a place to get an excellent coffee, a good donut, or a fresh deli sandwich and a hot bowl of soup."

Now, we all knew that Tim Horton's offered all of that, but it was the COFFEE vs. DONUT comparison that hit home...

This was a cultural difference between Canada and the USA - Americans get their coffee at their favourite DONUT shop... Canadians get their donuts at their favourite COFFEE shop.

Anybody who drinks that crap they sell at Starbucks... well, I feel so terribly sorry for you. :P

But ohhhh, those Krispy Kremes... truly a marvelous delicacy!

Mike.

Put them in a box and store them away until next year? Actually we threw ours out after 3 years on the tree (mostly because we've got a lot of young neices and nephews coming over wanting to eat the ones off the tree).

Don't worry Tamlin, the ones I sent you were fresh from the candy store...

You could build something out of them. Perhaps a picture frame or a candy cane house...
