Creating and Saving Styles
Could someone please explain to me the proper steps in order to create and save a "style" for future use?
The ones I have now are cool and all, but I'd like to create some with my own unique flair.
Oh, and I'm a little daft, so you'll have to explain it to me like I'm a three year old.
Many thanks ahead of time. God Bless!

This is lifted directly from the Photoshop Help file:
1. In the Layers palette, select the layer containing the style that you want to save as a preset.
2. Do one of the following:- Drag the selected layer into the Styles palette or onto the New Item button in the Styles palette.
- Click an empty area of the Styles palette.
- Press Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS), and click the New Item button at the bottom of the Styles palette.
- Choose New Style from the Styles palette menu.
- Choose Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options, and click New Style in the Layer Style dialog box.
3. Enter a name for the preset style, set style options, and click OK.
To create a preset style from a single effect, drag the effect from the Layers palette to the Styles palette.
I think that pretty much covers it.

Is there a size limitation or certain type of file limitation on what you can save as a style? I'm trying to save a 200x200 GIF as a style by following exactly what you stated.
If I drag and drop it into the styles palette the thing pops up where I can name the new style, however, when I hit "ok" an icon appears in the palette that looks like the "default style (none)" and I don't know what the heck is going on.
I open up the image I want, do as you stated, and nothing. Is there something I must do to the image I want to set as a style first?
This is really starting to tick me off. I can't be this completely effing stupid.

You say that your image is a GIF - is it Indexed Color mode? If so, the above won't work (as Indexed Color doesn't support layers). Try changing it to RGB Color.

Okie, I tried that and nothing. I also re-saved the image as JPEG and still nothing. Even if I open up other images and attempt to save them as a style I still get the same thing.
Okie, correct me if I'm wrong here, but, you can take any image, such as a pic of me mum, a tree, or my Chevy truck, or even a plaid pattern seen on a shirt and turn it into a style, right? (Of course, that'd be a damn near disturbing image to combine all of the above into a style and actually want to use it on something.)
I know it can be done with making a pattern, so am I doing something wrong here or what?

You can't just take any random image and turn it into a style. A style consists of one or more preset layer effects (such as Drop Shadow, Inner Glow, Bevel & Emboss etc.). You could use an existing image in a Pattern Overlay layer style, but you'd need to define it as a Pattern first (Edit > Define Pattern...)

Okie, that explains why I couldn't save it as a style. I thought I could just take any image and make magic with it, apparently not.
Thanks for your help and patience, man. I appreciate it, greatly.
