Creating PC Icons

Is there a way to create PC icons using Adobe Photoshop CS, such as the ones you'd use for the "recycling bin" or "my computer"?

If so, can someone point me in the direction of a tutorial?

Thanks and God Bless!

Try searching Good-Tutorials and Pixel2Life. I think you'll have to save them in .ico format if you want to use them as icons on your PC.

Have any idea as to how to do that?

I don't see the .ico option anywhere when I go to save a document.

This tutorial can help you: BioRUST.com :: Tutorials >> Creating & Using Favicons

The principles for creating favicons and regular icons are the same - only the size and level of detail changes.

Try this plugin: ICO (Windows Icon) file format plugin for Photoshop

PLEASE NOTE: I haven't tried this plugin myself - it might be crap.

Aha - I see Man1c M0g has already suggested it. Great minds obviously think alike!

Thank you kindly for the heads up on that plug-in.

Now I just need to figure how to get these icons the size I need them to be.

They appear to be rather small in size when I use them, even after I use scale to enlarge them a bit.

Thanks again, you guys are great!
God Bless!

By the way, that plug-in may cause some issues. I don't have exact proof of this, but I can say that while I was in Photoshop, all of a sudden my browser opened up over and over again with Adobe's help website displayed in the address bar which is here in the form of a file:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Help\help.html

The only way I could stop the web pages from popping up was to go into the program files and delete the cause of this. Otherwise, it was a never ending pop-up session.

I'm not exactly sure the plug-in is bad, but I can't explain the pop-ups.

I downloaded and tried out that ICO plugin, and it gives me no problems. I can't explain your problem with the help.html file repeatedly popping up - I've got CS2 and that file doesn't exist in my installation - but maybe it's another symptom of your "dodgy" computer, as you mentioned in a previous thread?

As to icon size, this might be helpful: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...winxpicons.asp

Mine is CS 8.0 (perhaps a little behind, but still works)

But I'm thinking I may have received something from one of the sites I went to, but who knows for sure. Could've just been a glitch in the system.

Here's something you can try: @icon sushi - image to icon converter supports xp, png and more.
It let's you create .ICOs or convert from other file-types.
Simple. Easy. Free. And it works.
