Question Scratch Disc Issues

By now some of you may already be aware of the ongoing issues I have had with the scratch discs with the other posts I've had in the recent past. So, in an attempt to solve this issue I purchased a 160 GB hard drive (Seagate) just for use with Adobe Photoshop CS and for my various other crap such as pictures, music, and the like. This leaves me with a nice amount of 134 GB of free space to work with.

Well, here's the deal. I set this new drive as my primary scratch disc by going into EDIT>PREFERENCES>PLUG-INS & SCRATCH DISCS. After I set that, I exit the program, then open it back up.

Well, it's giving me the same friggin issue, stating it can't create a new document, or after it does manage to create a new document it says it can't use this or that tool because the scratch discs are full.

This is when I get that urge to go insane and destroy everything in sight, but I'm not the Hulk. I figured having more space, such as a separate physical drive (as suggested by someone in one of my previous posts), would help the situation, but I'm dead effing wrong.

Are there any other options I can do to get this friggin thing to operate correctly or am I to be left with this immense anger that will most likely kill my PC?

It might have to do with RAM. How much RAM do you have? You may want to get more if it's low.

Well, this is most peculiar! Putting in another disk and setting that as your scratch disk should have sorted the problem. I think with 134 Gb of free space, the amount of RAM isn't an issue at all. My apologies if you've already tried this, but have you reset your preferences (trashed your preferences file) since you installed the new disk? If not, it's got to be worth a go. If you're not sure what to do, have a look here: creativepro.com - Photoshop Tips: Trashing the Preferences File

No need to apologize, friend. Your advice was great. I'm just frustrated with the general issue I'm having with this whole thing. It might just be that I in fact do need more RAM.

If it helps any, my PC is a Compaq Presario SR1303WM. Perhaps someone knows if this brand and/or model is known to have problems with Adobe Photoshop CS. Could just be that my PC is a hunk of crap as I've always thought it to be. Definitely not the best PC in the world, but cheap.

I've had a quick look on Google Groups but there's no trace of the problem you describe being linked specifically to that make of computer. The SR1303WM's spec, coupled with the amount of RAM you have and the extra HDD set as a scratch disk should be more than adequate to run PS CS with no problems at all. If trashing your prefs file doesn't work, you may have to reinstall Photoshop.

Well, I've uninstalled, reinstalled, and trashed my prefs about a million times over and it does absolutely nothing to help assist with the problem at hand.

To be honest, I might as well just go ahead and buy another PC. I've had nothing but problems with this one as it is since the day I've bought it.

Until then however, I'll just have to edit that which I've already created seeing as how I can't create new documents. Such is life.

Thanks for all the help though. It's good to know there's still nice people in the world. God Bless!

Maybe it has something to do with the setts of the whole pc, you know primary and secundary disc. Maybe your computer just flips or something alike becasue photoshop say the 160gb is primary and the hardway say the other way around.

But the ram thing isnīt correct becasue the computer will turn in some of you mb on your harddrive into ram if he is in need so.
