Combining Pictures

Ok, I would like to know how to take, let's say my face, and put it on another picture, let's say a wallpaper with whatever for the background, how would I go about about doing this?

I just want to be able to take a picture, or part of one existing picture and place that on another picture.

I'm a newb, so you'll have to break it down step for step, and I mean step for EXACT step. I don't know all the tools yet or different meanings you people that are experienced use (terminology).

Thanks.

There are lots of ways to do this. The easiest (if you want to include the whole of one picture in another) is to open up both images in Photoshop. Select the Move tool (press V on the keyboard), click on your source image and drag it into your target image. A copy of your source image will appear as a new layer in your target image. You can then use the Move tool to reposition it as you wish.

To copy and paste just part of an image, you'll first need to select the part you want (I'm assuming you know how to use the selection tools - if not, there are plenty of tutorials around), then follow the above procedure.

This is not the only way to do it - there are many ways to do EVERYTHING in Photoshop - but it's the one I usually use.

Thanks, man. I appreciate it, greatly!

How do I work with a GIF image though?

If both your source and target images are GIFs, you can't just drag across the whole image with the Move tool - you have to select some or all of it first (use Ctrl+A to select the whole source image). You also need to be aware that when you drop your source image into your target, it won't create a new layer, so you won't be able to reposition it once you've deselected it.

If your source image and your target image are different types (i.e. one is a GIF and the other is a JPG or a PSD), once again you have to make a selection in your source image. If you drag a GIF into a JPG or a PSD, it will appear on a new layer.

Ok, I got that down, but let's say the GIF image is too big, how would I go about shrinking it down a bit?

Thanks for all your help man, it's appreciated greatly.

Use the above once your image is on a new layer. If you want to resize your original GIF, you'll need to use Image > Image size...
