Unhappy Photoshop question NOISE?

I just uploaded a picture of a car that I had done a lot of editing on. It looked fine on my desk top and in photoshop. After I uploaded it I could see a lot of noise around the windows and such. My question is, What causes this and how can it be avoided in the future?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

noise...

did you mean smaller version...like in gallery? because i can't see nois on large version. the small version is noisi because of jpg compression a lcd low color depth...to awoid that, you need to keep jpg at least on 90% compression...but maybe it wont help...

It looks to me like the "noise" (in fact what are technically known as "artefacts") are only in the Gallery thumbnail. This is because your original file (1006.9kb) has been shrunk to 20.5kb, and something has to "give". I wouldn't worry about it - this is a "feature" of the BioRUST Gallery and not really something you can do much about.

I think you're issue is with the quality you saved the image as. Did you save it as a jpeg? Did you optimize it?

Thanks guys for your responses. It was saved as an optimized jpeg, I notice on the thumbnail the artefacts (thanks tamlin) are more noticeable than on the enlargement. but the background still looks wierd, lines and things, it's smooth on my desk top. Should reducing the original image size, then editing, make a difference, less to compress?

Are you doing your editing on a PSD or a JPG? If you do multiple edits and saves on a JPG you will increase the number of artefacts each time, as Photoshop re-compresses the JPG each time you save it.
My usual procedure is:

1. Edit the PSD.
2. Resize the PSD.
3. Save as JPG.
4. Undo the resize on the PSD.
5. Save the PSD.

If I want to do more editing, I'll do it on the PSD, resize it and do a Save As... to replace the JPG.

but that's just me...

PS: The full-size version of your image looks fine on my monitor - no lines or anything in the background.

That is exactly the mistake I made in my latest upload. I kept on editing the JPG, not the original, even if I know it’s destroying.
But you know the “only one more thing” becomes a whole lot of savings. Now when I compare I see I lost some on the way.
I guess the only thing to do now is to edit the original again.
Maybe you Tamlin have tried the Alien skin filter, Image doctor as well?
There is one, Image repair or JPG repair that says it can repair this kind of damages. I have tried that before but never got it to work. It might work as an emergency solution.

I haven't tried Image Doctor, but there are links to a whole bunch of JPG-improvement tools here: http://jpeg-artifacts.qarchive.org/

Also, if you have CS2, there is a JPG artefact removal function built into the Noise Reduction filter.

stockXCHANG recommend Neat Image: Neat Image - best noise reduction for digital cameras and scanners and Noise Ninja: Noise Ninja: The gold standard for image noise reduction

I'm trying out Neat Image - but I can't really say anything about it yet, because I'm not really sure when I need to reduce the noise...

Neat Image ,.,.,.,. you can use standalone application or you can use it as filter in PS. Just download Camera profile from their site, pick that profile from program and voila
