Question about EPS Format in Photoshop

Hi everyone, I'm new here and have a question. Is EPS the same as illustrator format? I need to get some things printed and was told I would need an illustrator format? Can someone tell me please if thats illustrator format ... Also, if someone says they would like graphics in "vector" format, is that what EPS is?

One more question, I have an image I would like as a shape, can I do this? If so how do I do it, thanks in advance!!

I am not completely sure, and someone else can probably explain it better but I think that EPS is a vector graphics format. I am pretty sure that both Photoshop and Illustrator can open them and that they are scalable. I am pretty sure that if you bring an .eps file to a printing place they can print it.

For your second question. I believe there are some expensive tools to do this (not sure though). But other than that, you can try to manually recreate with vectors and gradient meshes in Illustrator

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a file format that is able to hold both bitmap and vector information. For a full explanation, look here: The EPS file format

You can see a handy guide to all graphics formats here: Graphics file format summary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Regarding your other question: if you mean you want to produce a vector image from a bitmap, there has been another thread about this recently. Have a look at this: http://forums.biorust.com/adobe-phot...matically.html (Getting a vector from a bitmap automatically?)

Hi Bullynj,
You can save both Vector and Bitmap (or Raster) as EPS files, but just saving a bitmap image in an EPS format doesn't automatically make it vector.
Here's a pretty good description of both formats:

You need to talk to your printer. If your image is at a high enough resolution and size, they may be able to use it. Most likely though, if they've specifically requested vector format, then you have some work ahead of you.
