Usually when hard disks start making strange noises, it means they're getting ready to fail. The exact same thing happened to me a couple of years ago - suddenly HDD started making odd noises, then eventually one morning I started up the computer and the disk had crashed completely - couldn't even boot. I had some stuff backed up, but I lost lots of stuff. My advice to you would be to immediately back up ALL vital files - and don't forget things like email contact lists (I did!), document templates, etc. If you've got room in your computer, you might want to consider installing a new drive as the master and moving your OS to that. You could then keep your current drive as a slave - take the pressure off it and it might be OK.

I don't think it's anything to do with swapping your hard disks around, unless you damaged your current HDD somehow while you were swapping them.

Any chance you could have contracted a virus? Might be worth checking on.

It's really strange, because if you say, that the hard is brand new...
I've got 1 idea, it may look stupid, but maybe it's not your HDD, maybe when you've opened your case some wires got into the CPU fan? So the CPU is overheatin and usin "trotlling mode"... (only valid for P4 CPUs)

I have a friend that has a real REAL slow computer and i have no patience for a computer that runs slow. at all ill walk away.. in my opinion Im thinking it might be a virus that no anti virus or whatever can check.. because i run it on my frens constantly and it never says that it has anything wrong.. so maybe virus but im not sure about hardware because im not too well in that department but i hope you get it fixed! maybe take it in.. good luck! because id be crying if i were you.. but thats just me..

This is actually what has happened to me.
4 or 5 days ago,i was almost crazy with my turtle machine,so i checked it carefully all again, and I realized that there was a screw out of place, its from the HDD,I put it in the right place and the HDD stop making noise, but its still slow.I uninstall ZoneAlarm and it back to normal, dunno why, later ZA work fine with my PC,but its all ok now,thx everyone.

If you have fans in ur machine, try to check if the sound is from ur fans, mostly, its the fans`s sound +_+

Ah,and I recommend HDDLife, its free and it check your HDD frequently and bring you the report.

You might want to try using:
adaware
I use it and my computer is faster.

Defragging helps sometimes too and windows defender is helpful.
Windows Defender home
