Something different -3D street art

Street artist/illusionist Julian Beever creates unique artwork on city sidewalks. He uses a complex geometric arrangement resulting in images looking amazingly realistic and 3D, but only if viewed from one particular side of the drawing. Oddly, from any other vantage point the drawing looks deformed.

Check out the section titled “Anamorphic illusions drawn in a special distortion in order to create an impression of 3 dimensions when seen from one particular viewpoint” and enlarge the thumbnails at http://users.skynet.be/J.Beever/pave.htm

I have seen these before as well, not in real life, but pictures of them on the internet. They are amazing from what I see. I wonder how long it takes to do one. I'd like to see people's expressions when they first seem them too!

Yeah his work is stunning. I have seen many of his 3D woks on line but I'd love to see one actually out in the street. It's his understanding of how to draw water that gets me...especially knowing that he's got to distort it so it looks right from a certain perspective. Mental stuff.

This is really amazing. How can you possibly do a work like this? I mean, from the viewpoint you are at when working, this whole thing must look weird. You have to like, go from the right viewpoint to the working viewpoint each and every second. Or do you do it with a lot of people to help you, or with the help of a computer, or..? Well I'm almost lost for words.
