Stupid here, needs a wee bit of help

I was very stupid and did not back up my computer lately and my hard drive has bit the dust. Does any one know where you can send it to try to retrieve the information on it? I lost about 3 months of pictures and all my stuff that I added to photoshop like my brushes and textures etc, etc. The more I think about it the more I realize what I lost. email addresses, web sites, etc, etc.My son is going to rebuild our computers he can not retrieve the stuff on the hard drive. When he rebuilds it the upgrade would also back everything up on the second hard drive. But mean while...does any one have any suggestions for this stupid gal? Some of the pictures were of my grandmother's 95th birthday party and my son's hockey games. My butt is getting sore where I keep kicking myself. Stupid this is my son had a junk drive fail with all his homework for his computer class and I have been promising to back the rest of the stuff once my son showed me how. Water under the bridge but still holding out hope for a miracle. Thanks, Nanc

Sorry to hear that. Backup is a think that you won't miss until you need one. I don't know any firms in US that would retrieve data from broken hd's but I'm sure there are some. Try asking from pc stores. They usually know things like this.

Ahhhh, well... there are plenty of data recovery firms, but they are quite expensive and not all your data will be recovered! Still, its better than nothing I guess!

That's sad to hear.
It might be possible to place this hard drive as a second drive in your re-built computer and use some recovery software to try to access it.
iRecover - http://www.s2services.com/diskreaderfreeware.htm (third one down) - is a freeware utility that does this.
Of course, if the drive won't turn, you won't be able to get anything. It's worth a try, however, before shelling out any of your hard-earned cash on services like - http://www.ecodatarecovery.com/

there are some software programs that are suppose retreive lost data but not sure whitch one i suggest try searhing and see what you find,

Thanks everyone, I will check into it further. I'm sort of hoping that the pictures might be on my other hard drive but I don't know why they would be there. When I searched for photos before and couldn't find what I wanted sometimes I would go down to my D drive and there was a listing for my pictures there and the pictures were there but I don't know if that was just a short cut type thing or if they were actually duplicated on my D drive instead of just being on C. I sure hope so. Wouldn't that be great. I'm sure all the stuff I gathered for photoshop is gone but my son did back the program up for me so atleast I should be able to reinstall that. Thanks for all your suggestions. I am on this small laptop and it is driving me nuts. And I don't have photoshop here. About all I can do is look at all your art and hope we can afford to buy the new parts soon. Ugh! Thanks again, Nanc
