Which OS do you use?
I decided I'd start the first computer talk - a highly debatable topic.
Personally I use Windows XP. I love it, tons of features compared to the old 98 I had.
The one OS I'd like to use would probably be RedHat Linux. Something I've been interested in for a while.
I've used Mac OS 10 and I hate it!! I hate Mac computers overall. For a person that multitasks like crazy it doesn't live up to my standards.
Well let's start the discussion and get some posts.
By the way, OS = operating system.

Well my OS of choice (and the one i usually use) is Windows XP.
But that computer's harddriver died, so im using windows ME rightnow, and im not liking it
WHen i get my XP back i guess i'll eventually take the time to dual boot linux. Ive never used linux, and I'd like to try it out !
I like macs, the way they look and operate, but i the only place i get to use them is at school.

I've used tons of Windows.. 95, 98, ME, NT, XP Home and Pro.. but never used anothyer. Of them, my favorite is Windows XP Home Edition. I like it just fine, was considering a Mac, but probably not.

I prefer XP Pro.. since I like to be in somewhat control of my computer.. I have used throughout my 17 years of existance:
MS-DOS 6,7
Windows 3.1
Windows 95
Windows 98 & 98 SE
Windows ME (piece of )
Windows XP Pro (never tried Home)
Mac 7, 8.5, and 9, and played with OS X in a store, drooling of course )
Mandrake Linux 8.2, 9.0, 9.1
Red Hat Linux 9
I have even coded some basic os's.. but nothing worth mentioning

I've tried both XP Home & Pro. They each have some advantages over the other, but I like them both.
As for Windows ME it sucks. It has way too many bugs in it. Can't give Microsoft any credit there, they goofed big time on that project.

Well given the fact that it was something that MS released just to have something out for the year 2000.. they did backfire that one though

I use Windows XP myself at the moment, although in the long run i've used everything from MSDOS6 & Win3.1 to WinME (EWW!). That is, of course, excluding the OSes of my older systems, which started all the way back in my childhood with my very own Commodore 64. Hey, 64kb of memory - WOW, we'll never use that much!
Just for the record, this server runs Redhat 9.0 with Plesk 6.11 controller installed. WinXP may be an absolutely excellent consumer OS, but when it comes to servers, you just can't beat LINUX's stability...

You mean Un*x stability.. Linux is just a fork of the original Un*x code.. even though SCO (the owner of the Un*x Code) would nothing better then to stop linux.. i dont see that happening though..
Un*x does have good stability.. but XP seems to have pretty good stability and maintaince.. and Windows may be slowly moving into the server markets with 2003 Server.. but I see Un*x continuing to rule that little market for a time to come...

Lol, true! SCO won't get that far... especially when you consider how much they want per licensable CPU!
I wasn't dissing XP BTW - I think its an excellent operating system, and would use it on this server if its server functionalities were as extensive and stable as those of Linux. I just wish it was a little more consumer friendly - some of the configuration options at your disposal can be very scary, and work in mysterious ways...

Yes windows ME is a bad operating system. I'll load up two word windows and a browser, and then the computer will be REALLY slow even when I close word!
I really liked XP. It was mature and MUCH more stable, and you dont have to switch your shell to make it visually appealing!
And im not even going to start with the trouble that active desktop causes

Active Desktop was supposed to be a way that Microsoft could brand the users computer.. by having Microsoft add news and other information ontop of whatever wallpaper you used.. quite sneaky, although it was never really made into anything.. I suppose Microsoft now has enough information on users through the OS that they dont need to make you do something to give it to them...
