New Keyboard Design

Hey folks...I was just wondering if any of you had seen or heard of the new Optimus keyboard they are designing in Russia. Have a look at this link http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus/
I'd be interested to hear what you all think of it. I think it's a genius idea but am not too sure how much you'd use all it's options. Is it just a gimmick or something everyone should have? Any thoughts?

Ahhhh, I've seen that idea before and I think its gonna be brilliant... but with an estimated price tag >$100, pickup will definately be slow! Oh, and I wish they'd design an ergonomic keyboard at the same time too - I've grown so accustomed to the hand position on mine that it'd be hell to go back to a 'normal shape'!

According to the website: "Each key could be programmed to produce any sequence."

Oh dear - I have enough trouble hitting the right keys on an ordinary keyboard. Who knows what havoc I would wreak with one of these?

He he he...I have to get one just to see what nightmares I can get into trying to use the thing! I bet it would look great in a darkened room though...cool. I don't think that the $100 (approx) price tag is too bad for something like that...I'd happily pay £50 for something that all my mates would want! Great talking piece, practical in a non practical sort of way and very futuristic in it's approach and design. I think the team that came up with it are not far off from genius/madness. Wonderful stuff!!!!

Firstly, that is such an awesome keyboard, and I definately want one!

Secondly, I've seen it posted on loads of forums, but nobody can tell you when it's really being released or when it'll be available for purchase. I heard from a friend, that someone he knows ordered one, but I've not heard that he's recieved it yet. Personally, I don't know what to believe about as/when/if this will be available to public.

No hoax. It's a genuine thing of beauty. They released a three key trial version earlier this year to prove that it worked. It sold out damned quick. I am on their mailing list and will be notified as soon as the full version is available. I have a feeling that I won't get any work done once I get one though as I'll simply be staring at the keyboard for hours and not the monitor. I just love the concept of it...it's the closest thing to genius I've seen for a long time.

Wow. That is an amazing idea. Especialy I like that you would get a lower-case keyboard when deactivating Caps Lock. Although I cant remember the last time i had caps lock on anyway, but.. Hah! What if it acctually changed all letters on the keyboard to capital letters when holding down shift! that is just to cool.

Yeah I've seen this keyboard in a magazine article or something. I can't wait untill it's released. No longer will I have to try and remember which key it is for the plasma gun in Quake 3. I'd love to see how well it would work with Blender3D though(pretty much every single key including a lot of combinations of ctrl, alt and shift is used to do something at all times).

still.. I have my doubts... Will it acctually work with everyting? I guess it would feel pretty lame to have an application or program that this thing doesn't work with. Don't you agree?

I don't see why it shouldn't work with everything. It's been in developement for well over a year now so they are obviously putting a lot of work into it. To be honest though it wouldn't bother me if it didn't work with everything because it just looks so damned cool. I love it.
