Signatures - Punks vs. Yuppies
Consider this.
Most, if not all of you are too young to have lived through the Punk era of the 70's. The Punks were against the establishment, government, anyone in authority. They wore black, ripped denim jackets held together with safety pins (hundreds of them), ripped stockings, lots of black, white and red makeup, spiked hair, pierced everything and had the attitudes to match. On the other side, there are the Yuppies. They are the establishment, government and in authority. They wear expensive brand name polo shirts, khaki shorts, and flat boat shoes. The women buy expensive make-up from department stores (so they can look like they aren't wearing any make-up at all) have perfect hair cuts and drive BMW's. What do the Punks and Yuppies have in common?
Both groups wear uniforms and follow a well defined code of conduct.
Yes, uniforms. As much of a rebel a punk may think they are, they have conformed to a certain code of conduct and their clothing must follow suit - with all the punk trimmings - to be in the Punk crowd. They became a unit, troops marching to whatever ends a punk may dream of - wearing their punk uniform. Same for the Yuppies. The Yuppies band together at country clubs and yacht clubs and do their business deals during a game of golf. Their Yuppie friends would roll their Yuppie eyes and graciously excuse themselves from a Yuppie party if the host showed up wearing ripped fishnet stockings, black lipstick, and black frizzed out hair with a blue streak. On the same token, you would never see a Punk driving a BMW (unless they just stole it).
What does this have to do with signatures?
Conformity. I am suggesting that if your signature is a small image that represents you as an individual, then create something that is truly yours. If you are into anime, then draw the character you like yourself. Better: create your own unique character. Best: draw a character that could start a whole new movement with a whole new style - yours. Be creative. Be an individual. Challenge yourself to do something different.
That's all I have to say. Thanks for listening.
