Are you a Vector or Pixel Person?
Ive been using photoshop and illustrator for over 15 years now but I;ve always used them in simple ways. I worked as a page layout/graphic designer for a small print shop where we worked in mostly spot colors up to maybe 4 colors. I for one am glad to see that photoshop and illustrator have grown into very compatible programs more so than the older versions. So with my print shop background Ive always been more of a vector kind of person due to their scalability (is that a word?, hehe) versus working with pixels where if i had to change the size the image could get grainy. i have extensive background in logo design and spot color. Im just curious to see where other people are. Im guessimg that most are Pixel people due there being less Illustrator tutorials here than photoshop ones.

Hello!
I'm working in digitart over 5 years now, and I can say I rather like to use vectors than pixels. Ofkorz, pixels are more popular (photos, wideo, 3D ect.) but vectors are faster and neater, so I use vectors more offen.
I usually make vector arts in Macromedia Flash and Illustrator (best vector tools ever!)
That's all :P

I prefer pixel. Pixel is much more easier rather than vectors. Applies for me.

I love vector art more. Although, pixel art is tedious and time consuming. I've seen some crazy pixel art on dA -- have a look!

There is a less active user base in vector formats, unfortunately! Its a real shame, and although I do actively encourage vector tutorials and resources they are hard-pressed to catch on! :/

I prefer vector format for the reasons you stated---scalability. Mog is right we do have a less active user base for that format---but, please feel free to check the section out and help make additions. I was providing some tuts for Illustrator, but my version is somewhat dated. Help us out ojoe.---bedlam123

I like to see vector art more but I am definately a pixel guy myself. I really love a good quality vector art and wish too there would be more vector artists here in Biorust....maybe someday.

Personly i work with either. Im mostly self tutored and work with whats better for what i need if for...vector does have quiet a nice effect when used well but ive seen people butcher it and the results arnt very nice at all, But pixels i find tend to result better for complicated or 3D images. Thats my oppnion anyways

I am definitely a more pixel person than vector. I like to play with photoshop for fun too instead with illustrator. But I think I need to balance both in the future. I need to be pixtor. Thumbs up. Wish me luck. lol.

Pixel, due to inexperience.
I just did a couple logos for a friend, and did them as bitmaps. Now, after delivery, I'm wondering what the Printers are going to say when he gives them the disc.
Anybody know if there is software out there, preferably free, that can convert bitmaps to vectors?
I'm facing the similar question of meshes vs. NURBS (non uniform rational b-splines), in 3D modelling. I've traditionally done everything as meshes, yet I believe that I'm going to have to start making files with NURBS, as it seems to me they'd be faster to download, being inherently mathematically compressed. I'm pretty sure .X3D supports NURBS.
Are Vector graphics faster to download? Do you have to have a player like Flash?
The questions never end, the more I find out

I'm a "vexel" guy. Meh, just done 2 hybrid pix/vector works in Illustrator/Photoshop and got my mind blown off. Totally.
Vector IMO should really be taking the lead over raster as the demand for scalability and quality of tracing algorithms/ human brains increase over time.
Oh, and kingopayne, I'd be really paying to see Nurbs end up in a lowend app. It just isn't possible at this stage. (Xara's renderer will chug, and then die.)

"What's your vector, Victor" ... Airplane
I'm a pixel person. I do a lot of print work (posters/banners) and working with massive sized files is tedious, but I can't get the same results with vector. Most of what I do is photograph based anyway.
If there is a program out there that can realistically take a photograph into vector format (and works on a MAC) I'm all for vector!

Vector...Pixel...? Differences?
Here is a very dumb question: what in the world is the difference? Followed by: How can I tell if it is a vector/pixel? Which is easiest and in which programs? I have been using PS for a while but still am new to it as it is a few and far between hobby to work in it for things that come up. Although it's been about 3 years, I still consider myself a virgin, if you will, in this subject matter. I didn't even realize there were tutorials on the net until this year if that gives you any clue (and to think I went to college!). Anyway, if someone can point me in the right direction regarding this matter I would appreciate it (is there a manual that can easily be printed for PS CS2? (Or even a "book for dummies"?)

You'll probably hear this mentioned elsewhere in the forums, but here goes:
Pixel - One 'dot' of any color. Pixel art is simply a collection of dots that make up an image. Most graphics are of this type (i.e. JPG, BMP, GIF, etc).
Vector - Images made up of mathematically derived shapes and forms. Files of this type include Illustrator files and Flash. Unlike pixel art they can be expanded to any size without losing clarity. Unfortunately they also require MUCH more time to develop, and can test the patience of the most ardent designer!
