My grandmother is a painter and my sisters do alot of sketching. I prefer computer graphics myself though, and I draw using a tablet.

Wink

I am embarrassed to say that I went to a 2 year college for art for three years but never graduated because i couldn't pass the English or Art history class. Didn't realize I have ADHD and learning problems until my son was struggling in school. College was 24 years ago. I spent 16 years of that painting things for a company that makes wooden dolls at home sort of like factory type work. I hated it but it kept my hand in tune with a paint brush. Since then I work a non art related field (cleaning houses, yuck). I have a knack for sculting dolls that I would love to pursue but that is exspensive and takes more time and better working conditions than I have. After my kids decide if they are going to college I want to return and finally get my degree just to say I did it. I have just started playing with photoshop and Corel painter IX. At first it was so hard to figure out the most basic things and I cried a lot (especially since my oldest works with computers and would never help me) But now each time I try something or read a tutorial or find a new book or magazine I learn something new. I spend to much time now on the computer as anyone who enters my house with tell you,( assuming they make it through the massive mountains of laundry, dust bunnies and dishes that threaten to attack them .) But I am really excited about it and spend my days at my job dreaming up new ideas that I want to try. Shame I'm often to tired to really attempt anything once I do get home. It feels really good to create again.

Often my fingers are twitching and I just have to grab a pen and a piece of paper and draw what ever I feel to.
I don't suppose I'm an artist. NO one in my family is or was. That's somehow strange, because I'm the only one who seems to be able to catch the world on a piece of paper.
Although perhaps the skills are given, I just don't feel like an artist. there's something missing... but I don't yet know what. Perhaps I'll never come to the conclusion, but that's what keeps me drawing.
To work with photoshop isn't really the same as to work with pen and paper.
It's not as if one would 'cheat' with photoshop (as if this would be possible) but rather, that it's so completely different from drawing on paper, as drawing on paper is from drawing on canvas.
Although I'm working with photoshop at the moment I can't help doodling on a piece of paper on my desk .

Perhaps some unpredictable day in the futur I'll say: Practice makes perfect.
And perhaps practice (with a bit of skills) makes an artist.

can't draw to save my life!

Not really artisitic at all!

Am in the process of self teaching myself Illustrator and Photoshop, it's slow but at least I know that I'm really understanding how to use it rather than feeling pressured to keep up with anyone else or deadlines.

I have a great imagination and it's so exciting to produce things that look half way decent instead of it looking like a load of rubbish.

I actually got into Photoshop through my Scientific Digital Imaging class with the Institute for Forensic Imaging, and had a friend who does artwork with it help me. I don't have an artistic background to begin with (I can't even draw stick figures...shh), but I enjoy working with Photoshop to do both artistic stuff and learning how to prepare images for court presentation.

I'd hate to admit I have an artistic back ground. Both parents are very artistic. My younger brother is also very artistic and will be attending college this fall to expand his abilities. I once was called talented in grade school and high school and had my work put in some galleries, I even worked for a design studio for 6 years in Oregon. BUT NOW! I can't even do a simple sketch!!

I don't know if I'd say I have an artistic backgound. I entered in a few art comps as a kid, a coupla painting comps later on, and I've been doing graphic design for a couple of years now. Which has developed into web design. Paganpenguin, I know what you mean, I spent a few years doing IT which drowned out a lot of the creative stuff nicely!

I wish I had any sort of artistic talent! I can't even decorate my home or figure out what kind of curtains to hang up...I'm a woman...I thought that was a gene that I would naturally receive. I don't even have curtains in my home. lol Ahh well.
