A question about the movie.. Narnia..

So I was watching this:

if you read the previous post, should kinda know that I get a daily dose of watching all the trailors because my son is so fasinated about this movie.. he says lion king because he sees Aslan the lion.. but my question is..

I am, yes me.. fasinated how this movie is made.. the visual effects part, and I wanted to know what classes could I start to take to go in that direction?

Well, i've never been to college nor taken any classes for art (except painting) but I would think the classes you would want would be like... Graphics design, 3d art, 2d art maybe, animation, and texturing. Those are pretty much the required knowledge. Any classes that contain things like that would be a good start.

Your background in web development/graphics would give you a step up. Animation, texturing, along those lines would be next. There are also classes in game programming that utilize techniques that are useful in animation/movie making. Additionally, take some classes in basic movie making; operating cameras, lights, set design, master control operation, that kind of thing.

If you own any animation software and a video camera, you could start playing around using that stuff. Windows XP has a free program called Movie Maker 2, check it out, some fun stuff.

All of it is done in 3d. My guess is seeing if a school near you has 3d design classes?

You want to learn about visual effects?
Download blender or Maya PLE, both of thes apps are free and are a great way of starting to learn about the 3d process. Sites like 3d buzz and 3dpalace offer free video tutorials that train you in the use of such applications. Also you can find written tutorials at sites like 3dtotal. Teaching yourself is a lot cheaper than getting formal training, but it is hard work and you have to be really comitted to learning.

Thanks guys. Ill check it out. I got a video camera and the windows movie maker but ill download those programs also. Thanks alot. Is anyone else taken these types of classes or use those programs?
