Free Digital Camera + More?

Over Memorial weekend I went to Toronto and Niagra Falls. While at Niagra Falls I visited the Ripley's museum.

So at the end of the tour there's this pitch black room with a glow in the dark "wall." You press and button, stand near the wall and pose, then there's a flash and your shadow/silhouette is on the glow in the dark wall. It was pretty fun. That was probably the best part. I spent a good 20 minutes in there messing around. Anyways, I'm standing near the corner and the light flashed and I tripped over something. I was like wtf? I thought it was a ball so I picked it up. I walked near the other room to see what it was because the glow in the dark wall room was pitch black. So I look and it's a friggin digital camera. I asked my dad's friend if it was his, then I looked around. Since we were at the end of the tour, it was just us. There was nobody in the previous room either. So in my hands laid a digital camera. I didn't really know what to do with it so I held onto it. We finally walk out of the glow in the dark room and the next room is the exit. I walk out of the exit and discovered there wasn't a lost and found. So I either throw the digital camera away or give it to a random person. I decided to hold onto it.

As we walked I turned on the digital camera and looked through some of the pictures. There were about 5 family pictures and around 30 something pictures of a new house. At this point I felt pretty guilty. It would really suck to lose a camera, let alone one with some pictures that could be valuable. There was no one to return it to, no lost and found, and I couldn't just leave it there because someone else would take it.

The camera is a Minolta Dimage G500. Here's a picture.

I looked online and the camera is around $400. It also has a case, which is around $20 and a 512 MB SD card which is around $50-60. So basically, I found $500 lying on the ground. I still feel guilty for finding it. Someone is probably extremely pissed right now. The camera is brand new too. There isn't a single scratch on it and it looks as if it just came out of the box. I just need to order the charger, which I found is about $20-25 dollars.

Would you have done the same and kept it?

Sounds like you exhausted any means of finding the owner in order to return it. I would return it if there were any possible way, but since there doesn't seem to be one....I say keep it, feel empathy for the one's who lost it but don't feel guilty. I would call this your fortunate luck. You tried everything you could in order to do the right thing...now I say enjoy the camera.

man its cool
I dreamed of a Digital camera for years, but i dont have enough money ><
if i were you,there are 2 cases :

1. I cant control myself (in fact, when i saw others`s photography on Biorust,i loose myself and go crazy on http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com),i will keep the cam and use it carefully, treasure it.

2. Feel so guilty,i will contact Ripley's museum if they could put a notice for everybody who will visit their museum, the cam`s owner would come back and find it.(maybe, just maybe).

- I prefer case 1
