Frank's SEPITAWD
Super Enormous Pain In The A** Website Idea Discussion
General Concept
I'm thinking of creating a site that would be a graphics community, except the emphasis would be on finding and advertising quality sites, and the people who make them. Sort of like a GFX Artist or Deviant Art except purely for web design. It won't at first be as massive in scale, but the idea will be the same, look at sites, rate sites, and learn from the experience. Forums, and other features will be incorporated, but members in general won't be at least initially.
What I want to know from you is what you like and don't like in a website. The first thing I would like to know is what kind of fonts you like. If the response is good I'll continue on to other aspects, and after all the information is collected I'll start putting the site into motion.

Use Arial for the font for your content and such.
Lay off on pixel fonts.
Good luck on your site, hope it's a success.

I had some fonts in mind, Arial of course was one of them.
Arial, Arial Narrow, MS Sans Serif, SimSum, Impact for some links.

Ughh... keep in mind not all computers have the same fonts. If you use Impact for example, save it as an image so all computers can view it.
I know Macs don't have a lot of fonts that come with Windows. Just keep that in mind.

In those cases I'd just resolve it in the stylesheet. You know any good subsitutes for Impact on Mac?

And if you need any help i'll se what i could do, would you like me to brainstorm some ideas for you? I'd love to do that

I'm always interested in ideas, and criticism, but I'm not likely going to make you an admin at the site. Contact me on AIM or MSN and we can talk some more.

Okay, major issue now
Remember, Windows and Mac's may be some of the more used operating systems.. however...
Unix like operating systems do not have equivalents to Arial or Impact, or even Verdana, mainly because Microsoft has made those fonts copyrighted..

This may seem crass, but I don't really give a... "crap." I'll try to make it as good from one operating system to the next, but I'm not going to completely jumble the design to suit the needs of what, 5%, of the internet.

Hehe.. if you think about it, and this is sad, but that 5% of the internet have the most ability to attack who they dont like...
But you should not worry about the font differences.. mozilla is good at making fonts look pleasant on Unix systems

I wouldn't worry about Unix systems. Design for IE/Mozilla and Windows/Mac and you'll be fine.
