Me, actually getting someone to convert.. amazing

I would suggest using Knoppix for a bit, desktop wise, it uses KDE, and is a little clunky, however if knoppix works, you know that most distributions will, and you cannot screw knoppix up by playing with it, if you have any issues, I can hopefully help..

yeah im thinking about using linux redhat 9, is this any good? is there one better? i also want to know about compatibility issues with hardware.

I dont want to use this on my dual amd mp system i want to use it on my slower system for mello graphic works, do you think it will work on the following:

amd duron: 700mhz
ram: 256 mb
graphics: nvidia geforce 2 ti200
soundcard: game sutrround sound fortissimo 3

Software ways im fine, realsoft 4.5 can work on linux and so can photoshop with some special skills.

i also want to know if linux comes with any prebuilt in drivers, so it will do it automatically when it installs.

thanks guys

That system will work fine for linux, since linux is not a resource hog..

As for the drivers working, depends on if the card is supported in linux, best way is to install it and see if everything works, if it does not, usually their is a way to fix it..

Red Hat 9 is what I use, so I can assist you there.. and have fun installing, as Red Hat makes installation real simple..

Yes, never of that program.. then again, I dont even know how to use gimp..

But yes, linux and unix for that matter are a lot more stable then windows, it happens at the kernel level... since linux runs all drivers seperate and independant, while windows runs everything within the kernel.. some linux boxes out there have not been restarted for years...
