Greenday: American Idiot

The new CD from Greenday has been released today in the US. I must say this is possibly the best CD I have bought within the past couple years.

Idiot America is no longer filled with the lame lyrics that plagued Warning. The entire album concerns itself with the destruction of the American Dream. Instead of being like most current productions, this CD functions as a whole; each song instead of begining some random new idea, builds upon the previous. You can listen through this CD and it seems somewhat like one very long song telling a story.

The CD consists of 13 songs including two 5 part songs that last about 7-8 minutes and are genius.

The idea of using multi-part songs is one the best mechanical features of this album. The songs do not have breaks in between the parts of the song but there is usually a transfer in the style of music. So the song may contain some heavy punk, followed by a slower more emotional (although not even close to emo music) section, and then lead into a fast paced ska beat.

I won't go into anymore detail about the contents as to not spoil this great CD, but if at all possible get your hands on the CD. It is amazing.

I'll have to say the single is god-awful.

Yeah the song is American Idiot. Personally, I love the song. I don't know what Evdawg is talking about. It reflects America and how the media controls our lives. I'd give it a solid 9/10.

The best CD I recently bought was Page Avenue by Story of the Year. I've listened to the CD over 15 times ... easily.

Hmmmm, I really must have a listen to that song sometime. I've actually just bought the new Prodigy album - 'Always outnumbered, Never outgunned'... and ALREADY it seems that tv adverts are using bits of their new music. I had no idea they were so quick!

greenday (in my opinion) has turned kinda into pussy-punk (and I'm really not into that).

Plus, political rock isn't my cup of tea either.

I'll stick to listening to dookie. (IMHO greenday's best album).

For Greenday its good but thats not saying much. I honestly don't think we need songs to remind us how bad certain countries/states/whatever are, we all know it already. Write a song about something interesting.
"Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation controlled by the media."
you can want and not want all you like, 'singing' a song about it doesn't do much.

As a person who listens to a lot of bands that have politcal lyrics, such as System of a Down, Greenday, and so on..

I liked this song, the reason artists sing about this stuff is because it is one of the only ways to get past the media without being censored. You think they could ever get on live TV and say the media is controlling opinion, of course not.
