MP3 Editor Needed

Hi Folks!

I'm looking for a recommendation for a safe, reputable MP3 Editor...

I need to select samples of a few tracks for use on a choirs website.

Since this is basically a one-time use tool, I'd prefer an open-source or free package, but a shareware license with full functionality (even if its a trial period) would be acceptable too.

Any recommendations?

Cheers

What exactly do you need to do? I can make a few recommendations, but if I knew exactly what you are doing it may help.

I've got a dozen or so Full MP3 recordings of a choirs song performances.

They are concerned about not being licensed to play the full tracks on their website since they music they performed is not their own.

They want to cut the individual tracks down to a 15 or 20 seconds sample.

So, I want to take the dozen or so MP3's I have and cut them down to 15 or 20 second samples.

But more importantly, I want to recommend a program so they can do this themselves for the future as their music changes regularly. Thus, the program should be reputable and cheap/free.

Since i dont have a lot of use for MP3 Editing, i don't have enough of a base to make a recommendation on my own.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Cheers.

OK - it sounds like you only need basic editing functionality.

There is a whole heap of MP3 editors out there - many of which are freeware or shareware. Here's a link:

Free mp3 editor downloads

I have to warn you that I can't vouch for any of these personally, though.

If I need to do any simple sound-file editing (and I can't be bothered to open FL Studio), I use GoldWave:

GoldWave - Audio Editing, Recording, Conversion, Restoration, & Analysis Software

I've got the full version, but I believe there's a fully-functioning demo version that you can download.

Hi!
Just want to say that this soundrecorder was the first program I ever bought! from the net and I still use. So simple looks like an old taperecorder.
I think you can download a fully functually version for two weeks
Download sound recorder and dvd creator software, save cassette to cd & lp to CD; video to DVD
You can even edit your old recordings (keeps me busy all night)

though its not really an editor... if you have iTunes installed.... you can accomplish this using iTunes though its a bit of a juggle. First... you select the track in iTunes... then get info for said track and select the "options" tab which allows you to set start and end points of the track. Simply set the starting point and end point to reflect the sample of the song you need. Then get out of the "get" info dialog and select track again. This time go to "Advanced" at the top menu and select "Convert to AAC" which will create a duplicate file but only the length we setup (I think its same on Windows but not sure). Once you have created the shortened AAC file samples for all the songs... just select them and burn them to an audio CD (not data and MP3). Once a disc is made of the samples... you can then rip the samples from the CD as MP3's (use preferences in iTunes to set bitrate before importing to work for your web use) and waallahhhg.... there you have it. All done with iTunes. This may work good for those already familiar with iTunes

Thanks everyone!

And thanks Synthetic for that write up... unfortunately, I will need to fade in and out which i dont believe is possible with Itunes.

I will continue my search!

You can do fade-ins and fade-outs (and even cross-fades!) very easily in GoldWave (linked above). You can also edit the MP3 files directly.
