external text format issues

Ok... I just discovered an issue with a site I just finished up and not sure what to do about it.

see Catrow.com - illustrations, cartoons, animations, film, video, books, tv and more

If you look at the movie section... and click one of the two movies... the text I have loading externally seems to have these odd symbols of an A in a box for some of the quotes, commas and apostrophes. Not sure why its doing this. Anyone have a clue how to resolve this? Any help or ideas appreciated.

The text was given to me late and I just set it in place thinking it would be fine but when looking at this morning I see the problem.

Hi Dean,
What format was the text in when you received it? Was it a plain ASCII text file or some sort of rich format (MS Word document or RTF)? The reason I ask is that if the original was in a rich text format, the "weird" quotes and apostrophes may have originally been "smart quotes" which have not translated correctly to the font you are using on your site.

yep... it was cut and paste from Word doc into plain text doc in Dreamweaver. Never thought it would be an issue since nothing looked odd in Dreamweaver. Its also being parsed as HTML to pick up an image... IT guy said I should maybe consider using the code to replace punct. since it its reading it as HTML

thanks for the idea... I am going back tonight to see if I can fix those odd things

What tamlin said could be the thing (and probably is).

But if you use a very "strange" font format on your site, it sometimes just don't load all the symbols...so than some symbols are replaced by that standart symbol...maybe that is what is going on.

the font for the external text is plain _serif for the text area property in which text is loaded... maybe I will try actually selecting Times and see what happens.

thanks
