A good source fiel that you can download, also has an explanation about the preloader. If you wish to advance in Flash, you should definately learn actionscript.

Flash isnt the same without actionscript, because actionscript is pure magic, if you know how to use it. If you use Flash MX / MX2004
this tutorial
is recommended. Its for Flash Player 6.

Ahhh, god bless actionscript! Its simple and powerful. The first time I started using it I thought I was programming in pseudocode... I was just AMAZED it worked! LOL.

Create your images in Photoshop, save them.
Import the images into Flash and your set.

And there you have it! A one-of-a-kind bandwidth hog!
Obviously theres nothing worse then importing un-optimized images into flash, so tinker with save for web and try to keep them small in resolution. And try to keep them static, because flash isnt too good at actually doing anything with raster images.

Yeah, good point. They definately need to be optimized, also the make sure you use the smallest file type you possibly can.

Use PNG-24 preferably. Note: it makes a rather large file though, so it would be better if you made a workaround.
