here are the pics of the new fireplace and the old ones since they didnt seem to go through last time.

the first pic "fireplace" was taken on the day i moved in. note the red carpet. it wasnt nailed down and was so old and dry that my feet got chapped walking on it barefoot so out it went.

then next pic "fireplace2copy" was taken after i redid the floor. dosent look like wall paneling does it? the hearth of the fireplace you see is brick. but i chipped it up pretty bad when i dropped a log on it. (the bricks hung off the face about half way so they were pretty succeptable to impact)

pic 3 "newestfireplace" this was taken the other day. (month now) the spiralled collumns on either side were the ones that i made and stained. the hearth has also been redone we had some pool coping pieces sitting around work that were destined for trash and they fit quite well. makes cleaning up after the fire ashes easier too because its smooth unlike the bricks with thier deep grout. and yes that is an air conditioner in the firebox. works great! the heat that the back of the a/c makes goes up the chimney, the board that i mounted it to has printouts of a photo that i took of the brick glued to it so that it looks a bit more built in. if you zoom in just above the a/c you can see some other pieces that i made with a celtic pattern and stained and stuck in a bare black area that i didnt like.
the other column caps were from old jobs and made a dandy speaker stand and the one on the right i tend to use to hold kindle during the winter.
if you have any questions or want to know about anything you see dont hesitate to ask

I think you've done a swell job making a very comfortable room. The columns on either side of the fireplace really add substance. I can see you there with your feet up listening to Skynerd lol. It's very creative what you did with your a/c, but what about the condensation? Since you use kindling in the winter you enjoy the fireplace all year long. It's good to have alternative heating in the winter, especialy a nice, dry wood fire. Nothing like it in the world. We use wood as an alternative heating source and it really cuts down on the fuel oil. We use about three tanks (250 gallons each tank) per season. Actually the end of it lasting all year since we only heat with fuel oil. First delivery was $2.55/gallon, (you can do the math) only to go up from here. I'm sure there's others out there with simular horror stories. Luckly, we have a source for wood.

You have a very nice home and enjoy your Vegas winters!

That would of been the first thing to go for me... That carpet has got to be from the 60's and 70's hippie erra huh.. LOL.... Hard wood floors are so nice to have if its not to dusty huh.... What really caught my attention as i'm sure it had caught many others attenion was that oxymoron in your fireplace... LOL.. I thought it was very humorous though i was thinking it was just a photoshop do-over but now I stand corrected ... Still its a OxyMoron lol... well, i thought it was funny.. my hubby on the other hand didn't see the humor in it... I still think its a real tummy tickler.. maybe i'm just easily entertained though.. I don't know...

Ps Good thing you got those energy saving lightbulbs cause that air conditioner is gonna empty your wallet real quick.. LOL.. mmmm Vegas Huh...
