im allways one for learning about new festivities, but I want tamlin to explain this one...
any day that i can solicit donations, that i can use to buy small explosives is a holiday in my book!

Er...OK. Guy Fawkes Night marks the anniversary of the occasion when the Gunpowder Plotters planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I (5th November 1605). Guy Fawkes was in charge of executing the plot but was discovered before he could actually light the fuse. He was subsequently tortured to reveal the names of his co-conspirators and then sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered.
The celebration is usually marked by the burning of an effigy of Fawkes on a bonfire, letting off of fireworks and eating delicacies such as bonfire toffee, parkin, baked potatoes and toffee apples.
