getting comfy and shiny

Posted 05-26-2009 at 05:23 PM by supertackyman

Well, this weekend my motorcycle finally passed the line...
the duct tape to actual seat material ratio reached critical mass and I couldnt take it anymore. I took apart an old pair of black jeans, and made a new seat cover. now i have a nice new denim seat.

As I was cleaning up, I found some polishing compound and gave it a go on one of the engine panels (they were a dingy aluminum color) and had some acceptable results. so, I set to work pulling off all the panels and polishing them on my polishing wheel. now it looks all shiny.

next I have (want) to polish the aluminum wheel hubs and the forks. but that will have to wait until i can get a dremmel attachment to get the small, hard to reach places.

Won't have to worry much about slipping off with a denim seat! That was a good idea!

Bikes & cars always seem to run better when they're clean too.

    thanks moods.
the only thing that I have to worry about is making sure I don't get the seat wet by leaving it out in the rain, since I cant wipe ot dry. (I did leave the old covering underneath so it wont get soaked, but still I don't want to sit on a wet seat.)
yes they do seem "happier" when clean. I know that's just a projection of our own feelings but....
a clean shiny vehicle does have less drag coefficient (that's my story and I'm sticking with it)

(word on the street is that it could be up to 2% increase)

never seen a denim seat on 2 wheels before... that's thinking different. Maybe try some 3M scotchguard on it to help repel water

Still think I need to make a prototype of a nylon seat cover for motorcycles. I know lots of people that ride and hate to come back out to a wet seat after a day inside. The nylon seat cover could be wadded up and tossed under the seat for storage even.

Would be easy to make if it were designed like an old ladies elastic shower cap.
