so, yesterday my old co-worker and I went on out annual trip to the pma show.
PMA | PMA 09
all the new stuff, software, and assessories in one big place. plus a chance to talk to talk to the company reps about equipment, troubleshooting etc.
among the things i got this year was a lenscap that doubles as a white balance filter. kinda handy.
I also found out that samsung is planning a dslr/point and shoot hybrid. details were still sketchy but the idea was to have the ccd sealed like in a point and shoot, but offer lensing comprable to most dslr cameras.
I was kinda bummed though that I wasnt able to find a wired shutter control for my mavica this year. although there was a plethora of wireless ones for other models.
this year we just checked out all the exhibits, learned a bit about some of the new things on the way. Usually we check see a lecture about pshop techneques or something similar. sadly, this year was kinda weak reguarding software handouts. the first year i went i made out like a fat rat. for the first time this year I also didnt bother to have the printer reps do a "sample print" of some of my work at 24x36
many of the major companies like adobe and corel just werent there this year. and the give aways were kinda thin this year. I blame it on the economy. I did get a nice lenscloth.
I also got a chance to view bunches of "professional" and "amatuer/student" photographs in galleries throughout the show. I walked away with a new confidence in my skills as an artist/photographer. one of the winners in the student catagory was a staff member at some photography school. his pic was an overhead view of a coyote that had washed down a riverbed during a storm and was now bones and fur and skin mixed with sand. ****, I can do that...
I would have to say that I have seen work here by everyone that i know as a regular submitter that would have been way better than most of the "professional" catagory.
all in all, it was still really fun. I just hope it gets better next year. if you (dear reader) ever get the chance to attend, it is well worth the $50 for a day pass. next year I want a biorust shirt to wear when i attend. (hint hint M0g!) a patch or sticker would be cool too.

That's cool... I think I heard of maybe similar show going on near where I work at convention center. Couldn't make it though. Might try some other time. I am sure a lot of things like this have taken a downsize.... I bet Photoshop World in Boston is smaller than last year's in FL for same reasons. Where's the expo bailout?Posted 03-06-2009 at 04:19 AM by synthetic

yeah right? for my bailout I only will be needing either a Sony a700 or a nikkon or a cannon.
I really am leaning towards a cannon just because of all the lenses they had available and the fact that thier lensmount is celebrating 50 years. so I dont expect any changes in the near future.
yes. $2304.00 worth of cannon equip would make for a nice bailout. (numbers based on $700 billion that the us bailout is proposed to be, divided by the population of us in july 2008 of 303,824,640 persons)Posted 03-09-2009 at 04:23 PM by supertackyman
