The ants go marching.......

Posted 07-17-2008 at 03:58 PM by supertackyman
Woke up Sunday to ants cruising around on my computer desk. just a few scouts here and there. smooshed them and put out some ant killer spray and grants stakes outside. that seemed to stop them until today.
this morning they had made their way to the other end of the house and were letting themselves in thru the back door. so I POURED out the rest of the jug all around the back side of the house perimeter. It usually happens during the summer monsoon season. every storm brings refugees into my house looking for a better place.
My only concern is that some bug poisons can be lethal to Iguanas. So I am gonna have to make sure that she does not get anywhere near the doors outside, and it may not be safe for her to be on the floor in the house since the poison could be tracked in on out feet.

She finally has a name by the way. I decided to name her "Gracie" since we have a cat named George, It fit. (George Burns and Gracie Allen) besides when I turn off her light at night now I get to say "Say goodnight Gracie"
and if she turns out to be a he, the name can be turned to grayson.

the first few years at our house were mostly bug free. when i first moved there I found a few empty cans of malathion in the crawlspace under the house. I dont know how long ago they had been used but i figure it had been quite a while since its was outlawed years ago.
I guess after the rains quit coming I am going to have to get some spray and go all around.
My neighbor next door used to be a pest control and had his own business. He is "retired" now but has offered many times that if I ever need spraying he can and would do it free. perhaps he will let me dictate how i want my home sprayed so as to protect my pets.

"George & Gracie" or Grayson ... That's funny - in a good way ... no insult intended!

I hate ants. In the past we've had those itty bitty sugar / grease ants. Those little bottles of liquid that's specifically for the sugar ants really worked.

By the way ... How's Tippy?

He has pretty much settled into the simple life. I only see him occasionally now, he spends most of his time in his burrow under the cement slab that makes up my patio. as fall approached I gotta reach back in there with some large stones to prevent him from digging back much further and causing damage. he has dug far enough, now its just a hobby.

I found that ants HATE chlorine. apparently the chlorine in AJAX works well. thats the white powder around the food booths at some carnivals and outdoor markets. i was told they can use that because its "food safe".

and i will take ants over roaches any day of the week.
