Gee, who would've thought school was so relax. I got mostly half days. Some more some less.
But anyway, been taking a nikon d40 with me for the last couple weeks. We got an assignment that required us to take test photos and the real deal.

They will be used in a bed and breakfast folder that i am in the progress of making with indesign. There's some problems with it, but it's all soft and hardware errors. The colours on the school pc's somehow are really really off, and the printer prints some colours with funny gradients.

I really need to get that macbook i suppose. That thing boots within 5 minutes. That's hardcore compared to our school pc's. ****.

Oh and the reason for not replacing those is that my school is having money issues. They replaced most pc's in our building, just not the ones in the multimedia room..Now game design classes are given with dual core pc's while we are stuck with..something aweful.

Oh and thanks to the money shortage a hired part time teacher had to leave. That sucked..She was awesome. She was trying to teach us what i think is one of the most important things. Deadlines, planning, compromise, communication and most importantly, real life work.

Well, i didn't think i'd write this much. Perhaps i should blog some more to get it all out. :think1:

Amazing!

So what we did was shoot a couple photo's of each other and see what happened. After that we went outdoor and captured cars in 3 different ways.

1/60 shutter speed while tracking the car

1/500 stationary

1/60 stationary

That was kinda cool to do.

Our homework now this week is to take proper pictures of buildings with different styles. 6 of them. Just as a practice really.
Next week we have to make photo's of our own place trying to sell it as a place you can sleep (bed and breakfast thingy) . Once we got those done properly we have to make a folder out of that.

What heartless person would rate a person like me below avarage..I learned tons, without messing up, and i did all they wanted. And i pretty much was a first grader! Second grade now, what did they expect?

They didn't even disaprove what i did. I mean, sure i went through the trail and error part, but in the end they said it was "fine", or how i understood that " bloody fine".

I can't help it but to dislike them now for evaluating me without me being there and giving me a **** rating. God..

They were such nice folks :(

But i said i would stay till the end, like on a normal day, to finish some things, clean up the mess i made of the computer.

I am glad it's finalised though. There's been an issue about the end date..School messed up, thinking i had one more week to go..So i have 1 week off now lol, but trying to figure it out gave me a head ache.! Now it's final, no matter what.

Also, my teachers will get their asses wooped.My boss is not happy with the fact noone visited me and evaluated my progress. Therefore he decided that even though it's oficially over, a teacher must come by, with me, to get the final judgement, wohoo lol. Funny prospect.

But aside from that, he's been mailing angry mails to our school, together with a couple other bosses that guide other classmates.
One classmate even wanted to sue the school. Go figure.

Now i wonder if they will look for a new multimedia student to continue my work. They can probably learn something from what i did..LOL! (in a good way really.)

Web safe colours consist of like 200 colours, but only 10% of that is truly safe today. And a large portion of those colours are found in the default ms paint pallet..

So why bother with it if it doesn't work anymore..

I just stopped caring after finding out that pretty much most web safe colours diplay different on firefox and IE.

Instead of using websafe, i used my own custom background colour. First i made it the colour i want it to be, then make a screenshot of it in IE and then get that code and use it. This way it will look the same in atleast two browsers. But it might look wrong in say opera..but i am doubting that..Dunno if i should.

Oh, f*ck internet explorer for messing with my png's.

Me thinks i have to be more careful with setting margins. Setting one things margins may effect the others. Which is also the conclusion of a full workdays work getting my page centered.

I read some other dudes blog about him being leet with css, and that he used to use a sheet to set the full document to margin:0px 0px 0px 0px. I don't see how that's useful now as you'll want to over ride that anyway. But he stopped using it anyway because it renders too slow according to him.

Anyway, i pretty much spend 90% of my time of fixing that, but i also changed the text resize thing to two images. a + and a -. And i rounded the top left corner of the banner, which kinda goes with the javascript menu but also looks more playful. My boss agreed so no more work on that.

Been trying to get my page to meet the WAI, validating etc etc. I also explored the possibility of having a text resize thingy.

That, but i also checked what my page looks like when i zoom with firefox. But i forgot one little detail. I did not reset the zoom level.

I ended up pondering why one page looked different from the other while it has almost the same code. I probably spent about an hour trying to figure out what it was, editing a large portion of code, resulting in losing something i did earlier.

I just convinced myself to keep the freaking text resize thing on the page. Using your browser is hell for anyone else that will use the same browser. I don't care anyone that many people support the idea of education. I go for usability and normalisation.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...X)

Seriously, what arguement can beat the fact that browser zoom doesn't just zoom, but also permanently break every page you zoom on.

Oh and according to WAI guidelines, my pages right now are rated triple A. which means it follows the nessesairy guidlines. Real important ****. But also takes the warnings into account and pretty non revelant but maybe usefull things.
So even retards should be able to use my page, unles they can't deal with the computer.

A while ago U'ziel said in my thread that i should (could) use a return false; for my expanding menu. I asked what it does, and he explained it, kinda. So i put it in a portion of my menu and didn't find out it's use. Nothing significant happened. But i never removed it.

So, while testing it in internet explorer i found that it deals with the buttons as links (duh they are hrefs), but firefox does not. But i just found out that one of my sub menu's expanded just as i wanted it to! It doesn't have the "click" sound, it doesn't change layout because it's changing page (#) and it didn't requireme to use #top to stop the page from scrolling down on expansion. That was thanks to the return false.

Thanks U'ziel!

Oh and yesterday i validated my page(es). I kinda messed up on the doctypes. I had mine placed inside the <head> tags. So after fixing that i thought i had to use a strict doctype, but apparantly i need to use a loose one.
That is fixed now, and i only got like 5 errors and 10 warnings.The other page had 120 warnings and about 11 errors, but that was thanks to the text i copypasted in. Both pages have 0 errors and 0 warnings now. And both pages have valid css.

The css might have been valid, but i still want a neat page code wise. I had used loads and loads of inline styles. It just had to go wrong at some point really. And it did. For some reason i could not figure out, one of the menu content divs didn't show the right padding.
Happens when you say one thing in the inline css, and the other in the style sheet. So i simple removed all inline css in all the divs that shared the same style, and gave them a proper class. Now it works, and i can easily change it, and find it. Haha.

As a bonus i am adding comments to make it even easier. Gotta make sure the folks here know what to do, even if they break something. If they can't find where they have to paste something then it's pretty useless i guess. But it also helps me.

Oh and a little question to whoever reads this.

What do you prefer for your css layout.

A.

Code:

	<pre class="alt2" dir="ltr" style="

body {
background-color: #CECEAB; margin-left: 30px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 30px; margin-bottom: 0px;
}

.style2 {
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif
}

a.style3 {
color: #FFFFFF; font-weight: bold; font-style:normal; text-decoration: none
}

a.menu_sections{
display: block; height: 100%; width: 100%; text-decoration:none; color:#FFFFFF;
}

.menucontent {
position : relative; left : 0px; top : 0px; bottom:0px; text-decoration : none; width : 175px; padding-right:0px;
}

</style>

I now use the first layout simply because it doesn't use as much space. If one class has like a massive ammount of content then i'd give it the second layout.

On Thuesday (today) i opened that mail after being told they mailed me..and i cried a little inside when i saw what they made..I really hope they are not going to use that for the up coming event..:shot:

The site looks like a website, the javascript menu is working, and the general layout is aproved. I just have to add some basic content, they will add the remaining stuff, after i explain them how that works.

New issues will arise while cleaning up everything obviously, but nothing too serious i think. Fixing the page so it no longer stretches to fit the page now. I don't want it to do that because it looks different in every browser..

I'll be running into a couple more issues, i am sure. Hope none of them will be serious.

edit:

zomg, i just found out about something..I have this cool expanding menu and stuff, but i decided to make it go to a page, and then expands so you can click those links and skip to that part. But now i realise i don't need to have an expanding menu at all, because you can achieve just that with plain html..Damn. I'll see if i can trancelate it to html somewhere soon so it works with all browsers. Or maybe i can remove the link from the main link, and add the # part to the sub links. I wonder if that works.

Header contains some kind of banner ish photo and the logo, the footer contains an info bar and a watermark. The watermark is being an ass. I can't figure out how to get it behind the main text and above the footer table. If this continues like this i am forced to put the watermark on hold and continue with the layout, because i had no bright moment on the style either. So no layout and no graphics right now.

Have not heard about the businesscard either, which i changed again after finding a not laying on my keyboard. No more icons and no more "website" and "email". Looks pretty good like this.

My boss left for this week for unknown reasons ( for me atleast ) so he told me to finish this with the help of second in command. So i presented him what i had during lunch. Thankfully he had some great critism others didn't agree with, ending up with a real constructive discussion. In the end we decided that the main adress text needs to be easier to read, that the alignment of the phone, email etc should be different and that instead of using "telephone:" use a little icon.

First thing i did when i got back to work was fatten up the text, and then i made 4 icons.
As soon as i deleted the "telephone" part i noticed it aligned perfectly, so that was an easy fix. Next i added the little icons i made earlier.

This is the result now:

(3mm bleed, 3mm gutter)

Now waiting for it to get aproved.
Should probably be printed on non bleached paper or something. Probably not true white.

Yes, once again i made it. Progress.

I discussed the final design of the businesscard and what we came up with is pretty sweet! That man has some hidden talents i say, he just needs to learn to use a computer properly lol.

Anyway, i don't have to worry as much about the businesscard. I had some issues with the footer of business letters, but we've found a solution for that too. Text was not really very readable with bad lighting in black and grey, but instead of having a bar with text on it, we chose for a thick border around a white box, keeping the feel of a box, fixing the issue. So no more worries about that either.

Now my only worry is that i can't trancelate the style to the website. We chose a layout and a sort of graphic style. But it's really simple with lot's of white. We think we figured out how to manage it, but we can only find out after trying it.

But i am optimistic. Although i am going to start building the website all over again, ditching the old layout. Going to try to keep it very simple.
