Getting back at it.

Posted 01-30-2008 at 03:56 PM by MoodsR4Cattle
I'm looking over my desk at the two exercise machines who's sole purpose is to keep dust from getting on the carpet. One of them is an Elliptical that my daughter promised she'd use, and she did for a short time. The other is an old push-me pull-you bike sort-of contraption that looks like it came straight out of the black depths of David Lynch's mind. We're just not the exercising type. We try, but unfortunately, we can think of a bajillion other things we'd rather be doing, and so we do.

About 8 years ago I did the Atkins diet and it worked great. I stuck to it for two years. You're kidding right? No, I'm not going to divulge how much I lost, best to state that people that hadn't seen me for a little while didn't recognize me. As wonderful as the Atkins diet plan is, it is also a nightmare. No quick meals ... ever. Honestly a burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun is good and a novelty at first, but after a while you just want that damn BUN! No sandwiches. No potatoes, rice or anything white and fluffy. Birthday's were kind of a drag without a cake. Oh, yes, you can make the Atkins cake, but it's just not the same. No fruit which means no fruit juice. No peas, or lima beans ... no problem there because I personally dislike them ... but no corn or carrots. Snacks are reduced to fried pig skins and that got old after half a bag. So what did I eat? Meat. Lots of meat. And Cheese, can't forget the cheese. Meat and cheese. Cheese and meat. Oh, and salad. No croutons, of course, but lots of green leafy salad - with white salad dressing (the only white stuff you can eat) as long as it's less than 2 carbs. So it was meat, cheese and salad ... and a boat load of vitamins. I looked great and felt great and bought small clothes and enjoyed being treated like a human, instead of a carnival freak show escapee. Notice how this is all past tense? Let's just say that it's a good thing I didn't get rid of my old wardrobe.

So I'm looking over my desk at the two exercise machines and thinking ... maybe I really don't have anything better to do.

lol... right there with you Moods. Although I did SouthBeach instead of Atkins. Not quite as strict. Lost nearly 25% of my bodyweight and have put on a third of it back thanks to kids taking away the time it took to make that "good" meal. My wife and I keep threatening to get back to it. At least I still get some exercise with my hockey and chasing the kids around.

Best of luck in any case.
