Well, it's over. Finished. Complete. After vicariously living through thousands of years of wars, addiction, politics, power, corruption, greed, love, loss, death and rebirth it's finally over and I'm actually feeling a little sad.
The DUNE Saga has ended.
For those that watched the DUNE TV mini series (and the sequel that followed) and only shrugged your shoulders, I can't blame you. That was a travesty and an insult. Don't judge the DUNE books by that misinterpreted load of pig filth the network touted as being "accurate".
The DUNE story is complex to say the least, and Frank Herbert's writing style takes a bit of getting used to, but the story is fascinating and highly imaginative. The majority of the books were written from Franks unfinished transcripts by his son, Brian Herbert and writer Kevin J. Anderson, and are easier to digest.
Should you decide to read the collection, here's the list:
•Original Series:

There are many more additional books (Dune Encyclopedia, Making of Dune ... etc) also available.
Wikipedia has a pretty good description of DUNE.
