I asked for a raise.

Posted 12-10-2009 at 11:26 PM by MoodsR4Cattle

Last year I asked for a raise and was turned down because of the economy. I finally got up the nerve to ask again this year and when I did receive the call, my boss again went on and on about the economy and cutting back so I was thinking "no raise again this year" but instead what he was leading up to was, "we're eliminating your position". The long silence must have been killing him because he went off again about his reasons. "You've been a valued employee for a long time and I hope we can count on you to cooperate with us..." he said. Cooperate? His biggest concern was that all the company domain names I've registered were owned by me in which case I could charge a pretty penny for him to buy them. But no, I'm an honest person, I registered them under the company account - unlike another employee, but I won't go there. At the end of the conversation he said, "if the economy picks up we'll call you back" - the F''k you will.

So, on Jan 1 I'll be standing in the unemployment line scratching my ass and wondering how I'm going to get a decent salary job with no formal education. I've done the nightclub thing for so long, I don't know if I can do anything else. Can you imagine the face of some corporate stuffed suit looking at my portfolio? "I'm sorry, but your designs don't ... um ... fit our image".

Yeah, it's going to get interesting around here.

Hey Kenneth, thanks! I'm working on my resume - it's been 20 years so I've got a lot of updating to do.

Sorry to hear your bad news, ive been out of work since 19th december 2006 and still nothing, so ive been a volunteer on a site called " Operation Photo Rescue " where you restore peoples damaged photos that have been damaged in floods etc.
So in the new year i thought i might as well go it alone and start on my own as no one will give you a chance as you dont have that piece of paper called a qualification.
I wish you all the best in your search for a new job , and a friend of mine keeps saying KEEP SMILING , if only that was true as from January he is now out of work himself.

Wow - sorry to hear about that, Moods. Getting the push at any time is pretty crappy, but even moreso at this time of year. I hope things work out for you.

I found out, after too long, that it wasn't healthy for me to work in an office. Good luck and be persistent.

That's the skunk of it - I was working from home (10 years), now I'm looking for an office job.

In the mean time ... I've started a new website, just something to fill in the gaps until I get a "real job". It's not ready for prime time, but when it is I will post it here. When you see it you will most likely suffer a massive cranial implosion and after you regain consciousness, and after your eyes stop watering ... and after you stop laughing, I expect honest criticism's from everyone.
