I Farging hate designing websites.

Basic HTML isn't good enough anymore and sites made entirely in FLASH can't be updated by the client easily, so what's the oh-so-cool latest trend? CMS websites. Content Management Systems. I'm learning Joomla and man oh man, I'm just burnt out. How much more insanely convoluted could it possibly be? Extensions, Module Manager, Plugin Manager, Front Page Manager, Media Manager, Section Manager, Article Manager and Components (calendars, news feeds, banners, galleries, polls ... etc). Must create a category to put your sections in which hold your articles which contain your extensions .... AARRGH! And after you get the damn thing organized there's all the tweaking! Torturous hours niddly fiddling with individual module configurations and CSS.

I think I'll just shave my head and save myself the trouble of ripping my hair out one clump at a time.

lol... yeah... it really took me some time to figure out the structure and I am still finding new paths for certain things. I am guessing a lot of the code is not often needed or used but... it makes it really darn easy to implement cool stuff as extensions to do the cool tricky things I have yet to learn how to code.

I was just reading up on Dreamweaver CS4 speaking of client updating... I see the new CS4 version lets you create certain "editable" fields including specific CSS where a client can log into an Adobe web app and make changes without screwing up the design or code. Looks interesting. I just setup a Joomla site for a roofing company because it was easier to just use the premade contact module with forms and to add lots of fancy techniques like mootools etc without having to find the code and make it fit with existing code. I think as a designer... its also a good way to sell to a client by explaining they will have something that can easily be expaned for their needs and upcharging the price for development where most of the time is spent just creating or modifying a template for the individual client needs. I love what the open source stuff offers... even if not the most secure.
