She's Sold!

Posted 07-27-2008 at 02:10 AM by MoodsR4Cattle
A nice young guy now owns my RX7. He and his dad checked the car over (I mean Really checked it over), took it for a drive and said yes, but ....

The dad noticed that the tires had some dry rot. He checked the date and even though I just bought the tires a few months ago, they were dated 5/2004, and were old. Apparently I'm a dumb broad and didn't realize that the tire place gave me old tires. Because of it I let the young guy talk me down a hundred bucks. Not bad. But now I've got to check the tires on my other cars because I trusted this place. Ya know, you just can't trust anyone.

Anyway, I watched my RX7 roll down the road. Leaving without me. The guys brother is going to school for auto body repair and paint and my RX7 (ok, HIS RX7) will be his brothers first real job. I hope he sends me a photo.

I'm sad, I loved that car, but I'm also happy because it went to a nice guy that will take care of it and most likely enjoy it as much as I did.

Sigh.

I know how you feel, the first car i traded in was the car i rode in most of my life, learned to drive in, first kiss etc.
miss it terribly to this day.
of my other cars I have had 3 stolen, only to be recovered in a "Torched" condition. another one was a piece of crap from the day I got it. thats why I feel like im holding onto the suburbeast like its gold. it runs, and I can fix it.

I'd like to say I sympathize but I don't think I've ever grown attached to a car. Although I was close once, but luckily I escaped the accident unscathed despite the crumpled mess being a total loss.

Aw, Stiney, I think you just haven't met the right car yet.

STM, I've never had a car stolen or torched. (!) I didn't cling too much to my very first car (which held a lot of the same memories) because it was a Renault POS Le Car with endless problems - I could leave it unlocked with the keys and it wouldn't get stolen.

Actually I sold the RX7 and am selling my dinosaur (on it's last legs) minivan because we just purchased another auto. I was looking for another minivan, but my husband and I both agreed that we were tired of vans, yet we needed something big enough to take the hounds in. What did we get? A 2000 Volvo Wagon: The original box on wheels. Ok, it's still an eight year old car, but after 3 months of research if you're going to buy an old car it appears that Volvo is the way to go. It's a funny looking boxy wagon, but I can't complain when it gets ~30 MPG highway. And it has some "bells and whistles"! I've never had a car with nifty stuff before!

Maybe I'll have a mid-life-crisis relapse someday and get another RX7. Or maybe a 60's Mustang ... or maybe .....
