Apologies for my absence lately, but I have been busy with a brand new hobby... fishkeeping! Yup, it may seem boring to you all, but I find growing plants and keeping animals very rewarding, and this seems to combine my love of plants with my love of art, so I know i'm definately onto a winner!

Last friday I finally managed to get my paws on the 240 litre tank, CO2 addition systems, external filter, and plants, and now every day I seem to spend hours reading around the subject...

New server safe and well!

Posted 09-11-2007 at 10:35 PM by Man1c M0g (BioRUST Development Journal)

The new server has arrived, intact and raring to go! This is something of a relief, as Parcelfarce's 48hr service was anything but prompt. You see, their guarantee is 48hrs from when it arrives at the local delivery depot - in other words they can sod around with it for weeks at my depot and still be within their terms and conditions. Still, it only remained in their hands for a week, and is now sitting pretty waiting for me to configure it! I have two domains being transferred to it as we...

Driving Theory Test Success!

Posted 09-05-2007 at 09:10 PM by Man1c M0g (BioRUST Development Journal)

Being the lifetime student that I am, I spent the last week revising like crazy and worrying tons about the driving theory test I took at 3pm today. I guess the crux of my woes was that they changed the standards expected only two days ago and asked I sit 15 more questions in the MCQ part of the test.

Anyway, I need not have worried... I passed the exam with a mark of 100%. LOL!

New colocation server now shipped!

Posted 09-05-2007 at 06:00 PM by Man1c M0g (BioRUST Development Journal)

Yup, its all done and dusted! The brand new colocation server that will form the backbone of Biorust's future has left for the server farm and should be fully operational before the weekend. I must admit I am very nervous, however, because though I may have plenty of Linux experience, creating a server from scratch is entirely different. Nevertheless I have followed the ISPs instructions to the letter regarding IP & DNS settings, so I'm quite confident there will be no hiccups... at least until...

Fans drop temps by 10c!

Posted 09-01-2007 at 10:33 PM by Man1c M0g (BioRUST Development Journal)

OK, I've installed 3 powerful fans into the server and the case temps have dropped substantially! Motherboard runs at 30c under full load, and the CPU temp sits around 41c. Not bad for a quad core xeon! Sooo... in short, the new server is now ready for action! I'll send it off to the server farm real soon, and then we'll be ready for the serious work of moving domains to begin!
