my new project is gonna be long and hard.
at our shop we use molds to form our concrete shapes. many of the molds have a corresponding drawing (blueprint) in the computer.
sometimes a mold is made without the need for a drawing such as when we make a mold from a part that a client brings in (corbels are a good example)
sometimes molds get thrown away. (in the past 3 years we have probably disposed of 60% of our molds that just werent needed)
sometimes blueprints were not saved where or how they are supposed to be.
tracings are being made as well as photographs of each mold that we have at the shop now. it is my task to go through all of the tracings and photographs and make sure that I find the blueprint in the computer and than copy the drawing to a new folder. the idea is to have a folder that contains only the molds that we actually have. and then sort that folder down by mold type (columns, trim, etc.) make printouts and put into a book that can be used by our sales staff.
once done, all the old files of thrown out molds and the like will be transferred to another drive leaving only the new folder(s).
then all the drawings must be converted one at a time and saved as a pdf (adobe acrobat) filetype (in yet another folder with the same structure) so that I can e-mail the blueprints to people that wish to see a particular part but that dont have autocad. and finally put that folder onto a cd rom for possible distribution.
to help you understand I have attached a photo of half of our shop.
im gonna be busy!!!!
