The British drive on the correct side of the road!

Posted 09-12-2007 at 11:03 PM by caistor_bmx
For all of you thinking that the crazy bloke who runs this some of awe site is learning to drive on the wrong side of the road, you are infact wrong.
You see it all started over 800 years ago in medievil england, two nights would pass on a muddy track, each ready to fight as they didnt recognise each other in there suits of armour. In order to fight it was essential to have there weapon on the side facing there apponent and most people been right handed, had to pass on the left side to have there right hand facing.
This went on for 100s of years and then became engraved into our society well after muskets and pistols had replaced the sword and horse and cart ruled the road.
Then some bloke (a brit) invented a little thing called the internal combustion engine, leading to the creation and development of cars (automobiles to you yanks) and before long there were many cars on the road passing each other in all of great britans collonies around the world (india china japan african states) but because you yanks wanted the world to know that you had signed a treaty to declare independance from britain you drove on the wrong side of the road and began to warp the british language.

Unless we are drinking pop, soda, what ever carbonated drink you prefer. That comes in liters. And here in Arizona, there is a state Highway on the way to Mexican border that uses the mstric system for the speed and distance signs. But just the one.

we have gone metric with all measurements other than miles and still sell stuff (beer) in pints. feet is an english thing to, so is yards. feet is 30cm as we all know and it comes from the size of king henry IIIV foot (30cm or 1 foot) and yards come from the size of his step! Amaizing i think you will agree!

yes i was aware of that. and i do agree!
for some reason us in the US have pretty much refused to embrace the metric system.
whrn i was in school they taught it to us and told us that it would soon become the standard. even sold gasoline in litres for a while. not anymore.
we held out. the only thing the metric sysetm seems to be used for here is scientific measurements and weight of illicit drugs.
btw can anyone get me a quality metric tape measure?

Meh you still drive on the wrong side. It's not like the rest of the world doesn't have it's own history. the UK just is different in that it is an island and living in it's own fantasy world.

I am no yank, i live just across the channel. Which is also proof you live in a fantasy world as channels are dug.
