Mech projects

In an attempt to not become totally complacent, I have started a new project:
mechas. Not sure how much I'll be doing by way of UV Mapping, but it keeps me in shape with the modeling.

The Carrion
I think I posted this one before in my other thread, but it rightly goes here, now that there's a place to put these.

I've since mapped the arms and feet, worked on the guns, and I may or may not brave the head.

Unnamed

No name for it just yet. I've done the beveling on the legs and barrels, but the torso keeps going all messed up. Possibly because I want the vast majority of the edges sharp, not just some of them... eh. It's a work in progress.

Hey Cool Culann,

what program are you using? and could you do some more renders of the torso that is giving you issues? we might be able to help

I'm using Blender. I have ZBrush, but I can't get the hang of it yet.

I was planning to do as much as I could in mapping. You can't see it in that resolution of picture, but the first one has the seams in the armor mapped on. I'm planning to add more texture details like paint chips and scratches, hazard tape, etc. later, when I get the get-up-and-go to actually do it.

Hi Culann,

You may find the planes that you think are meeting at their edges are in fact overlapping. Sometimes vertices do not meet where they should! Try looking at a high res render at the highest magnification your viewer allows or check it in Blender.

I'll give it a shot when I come back to these, thanks.

Since I'm not entirely sure where to post this, I'll simply post it here. This is a Mech that I worked on a couple of years ago. I could surely do better now, but I thought that I'd post it here for the record. I call it "Stanley," and it is based on my favorite 'Mech: The Marauder.

I am having issues with rigging it, but that is likely due to my in-expertise.

Wow, haven't been on here in so long. Mercury, do you mean the Marauder (or Marauder IIC, aka Zentraedi Officer Pod) from Battletech? I like your model a lot, but it reminds me more of a Planet Runner from Shattered Steel.

Actually, I believe it was the Marauder IIC. This was years ago when I was actually into Battletech. I still love the whole 'Mech idea, but don't get much into RPGs anymore, with the possible exception of the MechWarrior computer games.
