Regarding the 'Planetary Masses' Tutorial

I am absolutely convinced that that tutorial has been stolen from a tutorial on artofgregmartin.com (http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/t..._a_planet.html). All that the author has done is edit the tutorial a bit, used a slightly different process in one place. But still, its virtually the same tutorial which he has just copied!

I just think it's out of order really.

well, if this is the case, i say we simply give credit where credit is due. say the tut is courtesy of artofgregmartin. its not going to change my opinion on anybody. a tutorial is a tutorial, it doesnt matter who wrote it. its made to help everyone.

and im not saying anything along the lines of people shouldnt get credit for writing them, because they should. just simply give the credit when needed.

Ummm... Well seen as the texture is findable in Google I don't think it really means anything.
And the image google found is from the artofgregmartin persons site.

And well, IMO, that isn't the hardest of things to make. Made something similar myself awhile ago.

Edit: And neither party says the texture is their own and the texture itself screams out to be used to create planets

I'd say it does matters a whole lot who wrote it, seeing as taking credit for other peoples tutorials is indeed ripping, and as such, not a good thing.

Mim: If you're referring to the texture as something not too hard to make, it's just about impossible to make it identical, such as these are. But it could be Googled, absolutely.

I mean the tutorial is not all that hard to make (so similarly) there are quite a few tutorials on planets out there and I'm not sure there are many different ways to make them.
The pictures are the same with a slight name difference imo, they were probably located on google- as so many are.

Joe has agreed quite graciously to re-work the tutorial so that it achieves the same end effect, yet uses a different process. This should put an end to these accusations.

Edit: He has just sent me a new tutorial that is radically different yet still looks just as cool. I'll upload it this coming weekend. I can't do much until then because i'm on-call at work until friday.

I think greg martin owns the whole photoshop planet and space tutorials, this really isn't ripping since some of the features are different etc. Oh well, keep the arguements coming.

It is most definitely ripping. And there is absolutely no credit given anywhere that I can see. If you want more people to have access to the tutorial (like Rson and others said), then link to Greg Martin's. Greg Martin made an godly tutorial, and it bothers me very much that you've taken it, reworded it, changed one detail, and called it your own. Not a snowball's chance in hell is that yours. If you've made another that does it differently for the same effect, fine, but the one you have up there isn't yours and shouldn't remain there. I've never been to this site before and I've never seen any of your tutorials before, but I can say right now that I'm not very trusting of anything on this site now - having that tutorial utterly destroys your reputation, I think. And it should.

As I said above Dragoonwraith, this tutorial has already been rewritten and a totally different version (totally different from Greg Martin's) will be uploaded this coming weekend.

i dont want to go to extremes and stuff. fair enough, the texture can be google, but joe's tutorial was very similar to that of greg martins. Anyway as Man1c M0g said, the tutorial is being re-written. The thing that only really bothers me is the fact that there is no credit to greg martin. btw, i found the planetary masses tutorial through good-tutorials.com. since yesterday the link has been altered to greg martins tutorial lol.

Actually, the tutorial has already BEEN rewritten - I'm just stuck at work without an internet connection capable of making the changes until the upcoming weekend. Nowt I can do about this really - blame the NHS for dodgy over-zealous internet access.

PS. Don't worry about your approach Pesketron - you have been civil and constructive. I wish I could say the same for others... but their posts find their ways into the trashcan. (I don't think we should have to tolerate verbal abuse

Hmmm... me thinks its time I said my bit here seen as I am to blame for this mess.

I admit that it is very alike to Greg Martin's tutorial, even the same wording, but, I did not think I would be 'ripping' it if changed the color and added a few bits and pieces of my own, as m0g has already said I have already re-written the tutorial last night and it will be uploaded at the weekend when he has time, so I'm sure you can all live with the current tutorial until saturday or sunday... now for all you people who keep bombarding me with mails, dont bother, because as soon as I see the title 'ripper' or 'idiot' and other foul language i delete it, so theres no point in sending them, as for 'EvO' you can stop filling up the comments box on my news with pointless messages as I dont care, I will just delete everyone of them and beleve me, you will get bored of sending them before I get bored of deleting them.

As for the energy nova tutorial, which is mentioned in a different topic, that is not ripped in any way, I didnt even know about the site 'globaldj2k' until that person mentioned it, and if you look at the end result of each tutorial, they are completly different, so its not a rip.

Well I think I have said enough here, feel free to bash me in anyway you feel like, after yesterday I'm pretty much imune to it
