Hmmmm, I do like the idea, but its implementation might be more tricky! Tamlin - can you link me to a working example of what you are envisioning? I don't know why, but I've got a mental image of a wiki going around in my head at the moment...

Well, what I was thinking was really just something that operates like the Tutorial submission system - members offer up useful tips and other bits of information, which get put into a repository once approved.

I don't know if they match your vision or not Tamlin, but there are several "Knowledge Base" plugins available for VBulletin....
I'd do some more research myself, but my main PC is defunct... boot drive issues... It'll take me a couple of days to get back online with it...

I love this idea! I was kind of picturing a "WIKI" of a sort, but a BioRust based one. where terminology and "how to install plugins" type questions could be answered similar to how the wikipedia site is setup... along with the most common questions asked around the boards...or is this suggestion way of base

Hmmmm. One approach could be a standard wiki bridge between vbulletin and mediawiki. One such bridge is available (and properly supported) over at nuHIT.com - vbWiki Pro Features . Hell knows I'd have no time to support a massive project like setting up a new wiki, but then again I might not have to - wiki's are community led anyway, and all it needs is a design schema and a few dedicated people to keep revising it.
Sound like a plausible idea?

I can't comment on the former, but for the latter I'm sure you need look no further than the BioRUST community - some of us are pretty dedicated!

Sounds like an awesome idea and a great way to implement it....
As for dedicated people to maintain it, i'm sure we can russle them up somewhere!
I can offer my time to assist in the setup aswell if it is needed.
Mike.

Yeah, it does sound great indeed...I don't know how that will work out. If all the members heve acces to the "write" area....But it does sound great!! And the newest tips & tricks could be placed on the frontpage with the news, right tamlin
And I do think that there are enough members who would like to help filling the wiki, and with the numbers where with that shouldn't be a problemo right?
Oh and maybe there us something like a filter that puts a link to some words like : "brush", that links to the biorust wiki. So that if you don't understand thing out of the tuts the wiki will be one click away....
>>not sure if it should be under the recources tab, don't think many will use it that way. But at the other hand it is an recource......well let me hear what the plan is mog!!

Oki-dokey! I have the wiki and connecting software all downloaded, and i'll get around to installing and testing it early this week. Have a think about what you'd like to see and I'll structure the wiki accordingly...

As I see it, we could probably start off with two main sections: A FAQ section to answer those recurring questions about Resources (e.g. Installing Brushes/Shapes/Styles, Using Actions, Managing Fonts etc.), and a Fixes/Workarounds section where we can store those useful bits of knowledge that we have gleaned from various sources (e.g. Trashing the Photoshop Preferences file, the Displacement Map filepath limitation, PNG issues in Internet Explorer etc.).

Great mog!! I think that will make us the first photoshop community with an knowledge base I know CGsociety has one, but that one isn't really working at the moment.
I think we can also put some tips & tricks in there....I think there will be plenty around at the forum, and maybe we could put in very good answers on "difficult" questions, things that should be remembered.......got my point?
Well, hope to see it working....if I can help in any way

Okidokey - I've put the raw mechanics in place over at Main Page - BioRUST WIKI . Of course, it doesn't look perfect yet nor does it have any structure, but it'll give you something to play with until I get things sorted properly.
PS. I've also spent a little while installing all the latest software for the server. Let me know if anything isn't working as expected and I'll get on it right away!

Aaah, this would be awesome if you can do it!! Great idea tamlin and thanks for taking the idea onboard Mr Man1C...erm 'your honour'.
As a newbie to photoshop and not having any friends who use it I stumble around the web for hours often trying to find answers to a simple question.
I am sure you will attract a massive following by doing this and could also be the talk at many universities, 'creative' offices etc. around the world where students (like me) tell others about your great site! You could potentially rule the graphic world and have millions of future 'biorustics' - how scary!
thanks again...

Okidokey... who would like to design the Photoshop portal page? It doesn't have to be complex - it'll just be a page that gives 1 one paragraph description of the program, and then links to categories. These categories will include:
- The tools - a description of the tools.
- Functions - literally just a breakdown of the things in the menus.
- Settings - a breakdown of things like 'feather', etc.
- Filters - A listing of the filters and what they do (with examples, of course). This could turn into quite a flashy section!
- User Submitted Tutorials - exactly what it says on the tin... a place where users can link their own tuts without admin help.
- Knowledgebase - Where problems and solutions can be placed!
This is only a basic start, of course, and more detail will be appreciated. All thats really essential is that the design is spiffy, as I'll probably use this portal design for the other portals too. I will, of course, create the category pages for you if you don't know how.
Anybody up for this? ;p
