Is is just me or is this discussion somewhat counter productive?
I know we all had an issue with people flooding the gallery with large numbers of photos at one time, and a limit was established of 5 images per 24 hours... Although I understand this is not 100% functioning... i have not seen any offenses (people posting more than 5 images in a row) so i have no complaint.
As for images and their "similarity" I am sure we are splitting hairs on this subject now. It is likely that the majority of the offenses in this category are occuring in the Photography gallery as I have more than several times seen a run of images that are strikingly similar... such as the same model in the same outfit simply in different positions and poses on the catwalk, or perhaps the same image toned in 5 shades of the rainbow....
To me, and I'm sure some of you will correct me, the purpose of the gallery is to show "Examples" of our work, not the entire body of it. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect one to limit their contributions to significantly differing images.
As it stands, the frequent offenders are individuals who appear to use BioRUST as nothing more than a photo storage depot... perhaps even hotlinking to the images from their websites or "Hot Or Not" pages or what have you...
As Moderators, I assume your role is to ensure that we all enjoy the use of BioRUST within the site owners intended purposes, and that your positions and titles exist because MODERATION is required...
Removing 4 of 5 strikingly similar images appears to be, at least in my opinion, well within the reasonable duties performed by Moderators.
The team at BioRUST has, since my arrival here, always demonstrated exceptional discretion and a well above average sense of commitment to the users of the site.
That said, I trust our moderators to make judgement calls such as which images should be removed and which ones should not. How one decides what is "similar" will of course depend entirely on the moderators opinion though i do not think there is much latitude here... we are not deciding whether images look good or poor, we are deciding whether they look alike. I assume you have your positions because of your ability to be fair in making these decisions.
Mike.
