Auto-closing aged posts?
Would there be any value to asking Manic to devise a method of auto-closing posts that haven't been active for say weeks or months?
I personally find it frustrating to see a new post only to find that someone has said "Ya Nice Work" to a post thats 2 years old.
Any thoughts on this?
Mike.

I agree - I've just seen that someone's added a new post to a thread they dug up from 2003!!

hehehe... ya thats the one that prompted this post!!!
maybe we should have Manic institute the dunce cap!
Let's say if you reply to a post more than 3 months old (without adding value to the thread of course) that your profile, posts, sigs, etc are tagged with a dunce cap for a period of time...
Something like a banner that says "I will remember to check the date of the thread before I post.... I will remember to check the date of the thread before I post... I will reme...." well you get the idea...
Mike.
P.S. I should sleep

Ha ha! I don't know if that's practical, but it's a great idea!
We could also do it for people who flood the Gallery or who ask the same old questions without using the Site Search or reading the FAQ first ("How do I use these brushes I just downloaded?" etc.).

Very nice idia i think!!
I really hate people who post unvaluable posts to an lets say 5 months old thread!!
I also like the idea of the duncap for all the users who did some stupid things, like posting on an very old thread(wothout giving new info)

Nice idea peeps! I've thought about this idea before, but until now I've not been able to find a vbulletin hack that would work correctly. As of today, however, I've managed to solve the problem! From tonight, any thread with replies older than 6 months old will be automatically closed, barring sticky threads and threads in the downloads/tutorials comments forums. Sound cool?

lol that would be kinda funny,
you know cgtalk.com has a "cg choice award" which, they use vbulletin as well , it's just an image that goes under the users' avatar
anyways, that's just me poking the bear

Playing the devils advocate here ...
What if someone does a search, finds one of these old threads but has a relevant question? This person will have to start an entirely new thread, when it would be easier / better to continue the old thread for continuity and reference.

You definately have a valid point Moods!
Although i think this will happen far less than the usual "nice job!" comment on aged posts... 6 months should be enough time for stale posts to be put to rest... any new or relevant information can easily be placed in a new thread!
Just my 2 cents.
Mike.

A good point indeed,
But i must agree with Mike if you look at the most of this aged posts they are saying things like "good job" or "thanks for the link" just to get some credits.
and, if someone has a specific question they can always put the right info there....
